nord stage 2 flash error!
I bought a new Nord Stage 2 three month before. Today the instrument crashes while normal usage. When I start the instrument again, only the message "flash error" appears in the display. I can´t use the instrument any more. What can I do? What happened?

Re: nord stage 2 flash error!
Flash memory corrupted?
There was a bug fix in OS 1.30 which mentions, on page 1 of the document below, a fix for "rare" flash memory errors.

OS 1.30 is quite "old" now and my comments are just a stab in the dark as I'm no expert.

Reloading latest OS is a good idea, and contact your dealer to advise of the issue.

Re: nord stage 2 flash error!
Did you ever get a resolution to this problem?
Mine started playing up yesterday, so, having read this thread, I tried reloading the OS.
The Nord OS Update Instructions state "In the rare cases where the operating system in the Nord instrument have become damaged and the unit does not start properly, the Update Utility will be unable connect to the unit. If this is the case, start up the Nord while simultaneously holding down the Shift and Store buttons on the panel. This will start the unit in the Update mode, which makes it possible for the Update Utility to access and update the operating
system in a Nord that does not start properly."
So I tried this, but although it started the process it soon hung with the message ...
Erasing...
Erase error
Now, when I try the Shift and Store startup, I just get ...
Nord Stage 2
Flash error
i.e. it's toast, and will probably need to be returned under warranty.

Re: nord stage 2 flash error!
Sounds like you may have a bad NOR flash chip. Unfortunately, the only way to fix that will probably be replacing the chip. I haven't opened up my Stage 2, so I'm not sure how difficult of a soldering job it would be, but it may require an entirely new logic board. You should definitely work with Nord to find out if this can be replaced under warranty. These are expensive instruments, Nord needs to stand behind them.

Re: nord stage 2 flash error!
Nord has consistently demonstrated willingness to stand behind their instruments, but in this instance more info is needed before proclaiming that something should be fixed under warranty. Which Nord is it with the problem, the NS2 or the NSEX? How old is it? These instruments are shipped around the planet and subjected to all manner of tortuous conditions, from dirty/inconsistent mains power supplies to salty air environments to drinks spills. Early to jump to conclusions before knowing all facts.
In some instances it may be possible for the tech to wipe flashes and get them to accept reload. Generally speaking, issues involving failed flashes will be corrected by replacing flashes, not entire circuit boards. Of course, there will be exceptions, but this is the desired course in most cases.
It should be possible to arrange service through the national distributor of the country in which the Nord resides. Please let us know how this works out.
Bless,
Pablo
