Re: Nord Sample Editor NS3 - Please Nord!

I have my NS3C since august, and I can't use it without my samples. It's a critical component for my use.
And so, I can't sell my actual set. If Nord announce a Nord Lead 5 soon, I will loose money selling my actual Nord Lead 4 desktop. So, it's another problem for me.
Actual synth: Nord Modular G2 - Nord Stage 3 73 - Virus Ti2 - Peak - Prophet 6
Before: Nord Lead 3 & 4, Stage 1&2, Wave, Virus C, DSI Tetra, P12, and few others...

Apparently Nord didn't expect it to be such a big job either. So you were both surprised!

It is critical for some people.

Unfortunately, the "(coming soon)" part was added after some people had already ordered (and perhaps already received?) their units, so they didn't know that that functionality wouldn't be available immediately.

>It is critical for some people.<

I won't press it - there's obviously a lot of passion for what is a rather lame piece of software, and for most of us an unused add-on.

And again, if your musical life and/or livelihood is that dependent upon the Nord Sample Editor (I'm not chuckling, I promise) - you might want to consider some alternative platforms, at least as a backup, for times like this.

Selah.

I am chuckling. In fact, I’m laughing.

Well I took the plunge yesterday and treated myself to a Stage 3 88. So I like to add my voice to the rest here and ask that Nord make urgent efforts to get the Sample editor sorted out and published. Come on guys users of the Stage 3 are really being crippled without having functioning sample editing software. It can't be too hard to add the Stage 3 Sample format and a convertor. It only like different versions of a Microsoft Word Document!

We have NO IDEA whether the format difference is like different versions of Word, but seeing as Microsoft themselves spent DECADES royally f**** up their own support of their own document formats across different versions of Office (not to mention screwing up Mac/Windows cross-platform support), even that is probably more difficult than you or I - obviously not developers - can possibly imagine.

Also, as written above, the one difference we do know about is embedded basic settings for envelopes and filters and such. If the new editor is going to support those settings, I’m going to surmise that it’s necessarily going to have to include some sort of editing interface for them - which are useless if you can’t hear what’s going on.

If that is the case, either they’re implementing a full samplesynth emulator on the computer, or they’re setting up an editor interface for something that happens on the Nord.

Either way, this is HUGE, and an entirely new piece of software.

Also, for all its being-completely-new-and-unprecedented (Clavia hasn’t ever built an editor for anything other than the modular boxes twenty years ago), this is something that absolutely, positively HAS TO WORK.

Most of us? I suspect neither of us knows what percentage of players use it. But even if it's a minority, it can be a very significant number. BTW, you know all those user samples in the download section that so many people like? They could not be created without the Sample Editor.

and "lame" piece of software? Have you ever tried to work with samples on, say, a Kronos or a Motif? Nord's software is a comparatively elegant solution for what it does.

Gambold wrote:And again, if your musical life and/or livelihood is that dependent upon the Nord Sample Editor (I'm not chuckling, I promise) - you might want to consider some alternative platforms

Imagine if someone bough a Kronos for this purpose, and after they got it home, they found out the function did not work, and wouldn't work for some unknown period of time? What you seem to be missing is that people bought something that was supposed to include this function. Why should they have bough some alternative, when this was supposed to work? You might as well be saying, hey, I know you bought the Nord to play piano, but you should consider buying some other platform, in case the piano in the Nord doesn't work right.

Gambol is trolling on the different subjet. I think the best think to do is to ignore him
