Mainstage and pedals

Postby Keys5257 » 23 Apr 2018, 22:21

I'm adoring my new MS3. I'm trying to replicate a setup I had with my old Alessis QS8.2 for live musical theater pit/conducting. I am connected by USB to Mainstage, which then connects to my Scarlett 2i2 audio interface, from there to sound system.

I want to connect a patch change pedal (Boss FS-5U). Currently the pedal will "read" (send MIDI signals) if I plug it into the "Control Pedal" input, so I know the pedal unit (and my cables) are functional. But nothing at all happens when I plug the pedal into the Program Up/Dwn Pedal input.

Thank you to anyone who can point me in the right direction!!

The Program Up/Down needs to be a double pedal. Two switches, One Up and One Down.

With the latest OS updates you can also use a single pedal, but you need to set in the System menu whether you want it to generate a Program Up or Down

Implemented Program pedal function settings (System menu) to swap Up/Down function on buttons A/B. Note: the function for a single button pedal is defined by B

To the OP: of course this setup will change the NS3 Program at every pedal press, not just send a Program Change via MIDI (on the Global MIDI Channel, if active). But to use the NS3 with Mainstage it is much better to learn and take advantage of the Extern Section.
