Laptop/music stand

Postby shadeki » 11 Aug 2011, 16:06

Hi,
I just bought a 'Nord stage 2' and wanted to poise the question of where people are putting their laptops if they use one?
I'm using a music stand at the moment but wanted to know if anyone has seen any 'genius' designs that incorporate the music stand holes at the back of the unit.

Any help would be needed or suggestions as the music stand isn't the greatest for holding a laptop in my opinion.

Cheers.

Hello,

I do not think the holes at the back of the NS could hold the weight of a laptop, and would not try.

Maybe you can buy a stand extension, make two holes in each upper tubes, screw a board and put the laptop (and more things like a controler, groovebox, mixer, ... dunno ) on it ?

I own a RTX and would not recommend, weldings are average, I do not trust it is robust.
I own a K&M and it feels better.

+1 on a good way of working with a keyboard (in particular the NS) and a laptop! In particular, given the Nord Stage is kind of a Stage Keyboard (not small synth module)but does not have Sequencers etc., this is very much in need!
I still have not quite yet found a perfect solution. For the moment I am thinking about getting the K$M Keyboard bank with this addon:

Seems to work great with laptops, but the 18950 is not perfect to sit on (too high).

I tried with a friends IKEA Laptop holder on the side and it was not too bad:

But still searching...would be nice to see some pics of clever setups!!

Cool thanks for the replies and cool ideas guys. I like the look of some of them. I've started looking at some 'Dj laptop stands' and they seem to be proving pretty good quality as they are light, have multiple levels (for other gear) and can fold up. Ofcourse also because they are for Dj's, they are fairly cheap....i'm sure if they advertised them for Keys players they would be double the price. something like this:
https://www.storedj.com.au/attachments/Product/329/ROA-RRBL.jpg?ts=1286837857 only problem with that one is it would get in the way of the keyboard.

or something like this:

http://gadgetynews.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Pro-Laptop-Stand1.jpg which i could screw in to the bottom of the keys stand.

These still are not very practical options though.

Any more help would still be awesome!!!!

Cheers.

Johannes, Shadeki,

Hello,

Do you plan to put the laptop in front of you OR on the side ?
Is it for studio/home OR stage ?

My idea is :
- on stage, it should be on side (not separating you from others).
- at home it should be in front (easy to tweak / do settings).

At home, I put it on a shelf that comes a little over the NS2, which I put quite low, I am on a seat.
On stage, I havent found any solution, that's why I bought this robust and cheap "knee hurting" stand :

and try to imagine how I could bring the laptop ...

Ikea Dave seems a good idea !

Thanks For your help guys. Yesterday I was successful and picked up a pretty cool stand and shelf. Its light weight, durable and strong and folds up flat.
I only had to make a slight mod to it by screwing some holes in the legs and the frame of my stand. Here's the pics:

What do you guys think?

...And yes....with this stand.....NO SORE KNEE'S!

Nicely done!
Thanks for all of the pics.
I think others will want to clone your rather effective solution.

Very nice !!!

Thanks for the pics.

What keyboard is this ? Strange color for a keyboard !

hmm ...

I'll try a more sensible questions :
- does the stand fold flat too ?
- how much does it weight please ?
- do you think the laptop could be put lower, with only one shelf ?

I think it's not far, if not "perfect" ! and I'd like to know the make and model please.

Have fun playing with MainStage ;) ?

Yes it folds completely flat.

the laptop stand weighs about a kilo?

yes if you look at the pictures closely there are two tiny slots in the middle side of the stand. You can adjust to what ever height you want. I found for me this was the best height because i can still see all of the controls on the Nord (drawbars, volume etc.) plus I can still read the VU meter on the Apogee duet to see if i am close to peaking.
Any lower and I am compensating missing out on something so it works for me. Also, by having it to the left, I can have a music stand right in front of me, or got room for another upper keyboard which I think I will do next.

I'm Happy!

Oh...

I think the model is 'Lapstand DC' made by 'E-Systemspro'

Here are the instructions it came with.

It cost me $99 Australian all up ($60 for stand and $39 for shelf) but if you could find the "crane stand" at an affordable price i would definitely go for that as it's lighter and easier and quicker to lock in place and then just drill a hole through that and into the keyboard stand.
