Hey guys ... I'm new to Nord. I've always wanted one and finally purchased a used Stage EX in great shape. The existing sounds are 50% usable. Many sounds are not applicable to what I'll be using. I play mostly original rock with a hard edge and some experimental - so I'll be leaning heavily on synths and probably some elec piano sounds.
Two things have raised questions so far.
1. When I use the selection button in the piano section it ONLY toggles between E.PIANO and A.GRAND. No CLAV/HPS. No WURL. No A.UPRIGHT or E.GRAND. Is that because they deleted the other instruments?
2. On many pages there are only one or two audible sounds. (say 1 and 2) and 3-6 are titled, but inaudible. Is that because they were programmed to be controlled by an external keyboard?
My main question just starting out here is should I reset everything to factory default settings before I launch on crafting my own sounds for our covers and original stuff?
Any advise for a newbie is more than welcome. Think back to when you first started and offer up any tips and tricks that would help with set-ups. (ie: stuff like where to save your new sounds. which ones to overwrite, are there any AMAZING patches or pianos I should switch out instead of default instruments, how to avoid issues with maxed out storage, etc. I'm all ears. In my current band I am the bassist, but I jump on keys often, so am usually playing bass with my left hand while adding color with the right. Been playing keys for 25 years - and was excited to see I can create such rich textured sounds and layers within programs that are easily accessible live. Looking forward to this journey!

Re: Initial Set-up for Stage EX (newbie)
I suggest you restore the Factory Sounds, you can download the backup file from Nordkeyboards.com, Downloads section, then use the Nord Sound Manager to Restore to your NS EX

Re: Initial Set-up for Stage EX (newbie)
1) yes -- if a piano type is skipped, this will be an indication that the prior owner deleted all sounds in that category
2) more likely those sounds have alternate audio output routings -- try listing to outputs 3/4
3) agree with Max, restore to original factory load and work out from there
Note that restoring factory load on Stage Classic/EX will NOT affect System Settings (such as audio routing settings)
bless, pablo
