Help sending midi notes from stage2ex to computer

Hi, I'd like to play a melody on my stage2ex and record the midi notes on a computer. I'm planning something very simple, just jotting down some melody ideas to a .mid file in order to help remembering my own compositions.

Can you kindly help me setting this up using the provided usb cable?
I'm on windows, installed the clavia drivers and connected the keyboard to the pc. In ableton I can see the nord stage 2 midi device, however pressing notes doesn't produce any result in ableton.
Should I edit the stage2ex settings to something specific? Any other (easier) software I should use? what am I doing wrong?

Make sure to set the MIDI channel to "USB *" (where * is the desired midi channel 1-16) in the MIDI settings menu on the NS2EX.
