I did a small modification to implement Patshi's idea to make the left pedal work as rotor switch. Instead of a flip switch, it needs an a-b switch, and two outputs, one to the rotor jack and another to the sustain jack. This way it's not needed to swap cables, and still keep the middle pedal working. I like the idea of building it in a small box.



I am really sorry for posting so many diagrams, but no actual device... I promise when I get some spare time from work and family, I will take the soldering iron and start burning my fingers!!

Has anybody tried the wiring of ordinary pedals suggested in the discussion?

Also looking at the photos, I wondered if the pedal noise is triggered by the velocity computed from the time difference between the 2 sensors in the sustain pedal (you see the one closer to the hinge will be triggered slightly earlier than the one which is further away). If so, the two sensors could generate a different resistance and it might be possible to add a micro-switch with a further resistor to recreate this.
Of course I might be completely wrong on how this works...

also imho that's exactly how it works so just cabling normal pedals wouldn't recreate the velocity feature of the Nord triple pedal (sustain)-

Hi maxpiano,
It should be possible to add a further switch to an existing pedal. The problem would be to tune its position, so it gives sensible delta-time values that are detected as velocity.
What Nord could implement is the option of a fixed (user defined) value of the pedal noise via the System settings, if one wants to use it. That would provide at least some function to a feature that we can't use without buying an expensive pedal.
Does Nord listen to user requests?

I just soldered a 10k resistor into a the left pedal circuit of a double pedal I had used back in the day with my Ensoniq ASR and TS series keyboards...I think it may be built by Fatar?

It is a standard dual contact closure unit with no half pedaling etc.woth 1/4" TRS connection, see picture I found online:

It only took a few minutes and the sostenuto feature works...I have no use for the other function options, but wanted to use sostenuto without giving up the rotor speed foot switch I already have drilled into the Yamaha FC-7 pedal I use for swell.

Thanks for info. Can you tell if the sostenuto pedal works also with the synth section?

You can set it to work with all 3 internal sections by pressing (shift + latch)...the EXTsection does not ave tat option on the front panel and I do not have a midi device that accepts sostenuto to test if the message is passed or not.

it is an interesting feature, I found two more dual pedals in the closet and modified them as spares.

More on the pedal noise feature:
I guess that there should be about 4 different resistance values between the tip and the shield of the connector of a triple pedal when it is pressed (unfortunately the photos of the disassembled pedal do not show the conductor tracks under the sustain sensors to work this out).
Since the sustain has 2 velocity sensors (each with 2 contacts to produce the delta t value to work out velocity) I guess that the first sensor is for the half-pedal, the other for the normal action. The one closest to the hinge should trigger early.

So if somebody with a triple pedal could kindly check what resistance values appear between tip and shield while extremely slowly pressing the sustain in the triple pedal, a fixed pedal sound could be implemented with a simple switch pedal by adding some resistor(s) and a second contact switch.

Would anybody so kind to make such test?
