Hello
How would you make a sound that is the fattest (moog alike) bass on NS2ex?
I find it difficult...
IS a good option to sample in a already fat bass sound? Or to tweak the synth section?

Re: Fattest bass possible
Personally I start with either a saw or square wave, and up the unison mode to taste. I also usually put an lfo to slowly modulate the shape (as close to PWM this Nord will get). Then I decide if I want an envelope or velocity to the filter. Filter is usually 24db, no resonance. It does the trick for me when I am playing in a double keyboard and drums group, but it doesn't touch my Sub 37 for real fatness. The filter on the Nord just doesn't do fat like the Moog filter does. I'll see if I can save my bass patch I use and upload it sometime soon.

Another trick is to turn on the organ section and use the 16' and 8' drawbars in small amounts. This effectively becomes a sub oscillator. No amp effect (such as the rotary speaker) should be used.

Re: Fattest bass possible
Find the 'Go And Jump' program, in the NS2 it is in A08:4. Then, using slot 1 only try closing the filter Frequency to 327Hz and the Filter Mod Env to 6.1 and the Mod Env Decay to 683 ms. Then switch both slots on again. That should be quite fat. If not you can adjust slot 2 in a similar way.

I'm going to steal this idea. I wish the Stage had bass pedal drawbars, or at least the option to have the 16' go down the last octave.

Re: Fattest bass possible
Thank you very much for your kind answers!
I will try out your suggestions.
I am also considering buying a Moog Minitaur.

Re: Fattest bass possible
I had a Mini D and it was quite fat.
I currently run a NSEX88 which has a synth EQ. By turning the bass knob up full, it's the same as the mini. Without it, it's a bit thin. To the point of being "that's not fat enough". The NS2 lost this feature. Which is a shame. You could probably EQ it up in the main section, but with the EX, you can use this as well, kind of like a mega dub boost thing.
I'm talking about a snoop-doggy-dogg style saw bass with no dual osc phasing, fancy filterwork or anything else. You can filter it to get the bow-boppa-bow herbie hancock 70s farty bass as well.
I use the sine sub bass for the left hand of the split organ to get a Hammond A/BC style "bass goes all the way down" sound.
