Deepening my Stage 2 knowledge

Postby wizzy » 26 Jun 2016, 13:38

Hello Friends!

I own a Stage 2 and have been performing and using it for quite a while now.
I seem to lack an understanding of the ways all the different effects and combinations can help me enrich my overall sounds so I am on the lookout for various ways, mainly on how to combine all the different effects and instruments in an effective manner... so:
- which effects are more common or sound good in your opinion with different instruments? (rhodes, pianos, strings, brass etc)
- which effects compliment each other well?
- how can I enrich my sound using layers? what are some sounds\samples that go well together from your experience?
- what are some tips on what to avoid or to use when playing in a rhythm section (with a drummer, bassist and a guitar player or two at times) sound-wise?

Also general remarks on how you got to learn and understand the process of sound-building will be welcomed warmly! :D

Thanks!

Well, this is a vast topic to handle and I'm sorry to say that I'm not capable diving into it now. I had to put my cat to sleep today and really not in a "input" mood. I promise to return to this topic however, for it is a really important to me!

I'm sorry to hear that. I know what's it like to go through something like this... Had to put my dog to sleep and it was a very hard time for my family and me.

Whenever you'll find the time will be very much appreciated friend :)

hey, remember seeing this a while back, but for some reason it took ages before my account got activated so I couldn't write earlier. But I also think this is a good topic and I actually have same questions as the OP. I am quite a newbie with my stage2ex and have only scratched the surface of effects as well as the organs and synth section. All help is appreciated!

I find this kind of question extremely vague, which is why there are no constructive replies.

My answer is completely different depending upon what I'm playing, and with whom I'm playing.

Piano and synth string layer is great, but completely useless when I need a chorused CP70 sound for "Don't Stop Believing" or a piano for Latin or jazz stuff. And a Fats Domino number is going to want a different piano than a clean Ballad.

Not to mention Clavinets or Hammonds. Or horns. Or a monophonic lead synth.
