D above middle C not working
Hi
The D above middle C on my Stage 2 HA76 stopped working at a gig last night. It happened once before but it rectified itself. Not this time though.
I've had the keyboard over 2 years, bought new from PMT so probably out of warranty now.
Just wondered if the keybed is easy to access on the Stage 2.
Any help appreciated.

Re: D above middle C not working
Here is a link for disassembly for an Electro 2, it's about the same for the Stage. BUT!!! when opening go slow, there are ribbon cables that can be damaged if proper care is not taken.

Re: D above middle C not working
I now have the keybed assembly out. The rear socket PCB is still attached though as the ribbon cables don't seem to be detachable (orange plugs).
I'm not too sure how to go about sorting out the dead key. I need to get to the rubber contact strip but can't work out
how the remove the key.

Re: D above middle C not working
that tutorial only got you halfway to your goal...
removing keys is not your goal...instead flip the whole keybed assembly over, then remove the key contact PCB from the underside (bass or treble half as needed)
make a dot on the circuit board with a felt tip pen before removing the contact PCB to mark the exact location of the problem note
then peel back the rubber strip to reveal the contact points which need cleaning

Re: D above middle C not working
Thanks.
That looks easier.
I thought maybe key removal was needed as this post was the nearest I could find on the topic.

Re: D above middle C not working
Seems pretty clean as it should be really as it's only 2 years old and it's covered between sets at gigs.
It's the 3rd contact from the right
I'll clean it anyway and hope for the best.

Re: D above middle C not working
All good now
Not sure what it was as it looked completely clean.
Thanks for the help.

Re: D above middle C not working
Hi Dan, Thanks for the photo and documenting your experience.
I notice some black fibres under the elastomer and inside your Nord.
If these are non-conductive (e.g., hair, wool, polymer) they could cause the failure if trapped between a black contact on the circuit board and a black puck (pill-shaped) contact on the grey rubber piece.
I didn't really appreciate that such minute particles might be problematic, but it seems possible given your observations and outcome.

Re: D above middle C not working
Well spotted!
I've had a close look at the Q tip that I used to clean the contacts and there's fine black deposits on it.
Could well be what you suggest.
If they are small fibres I can only assume they're from the Nord case lining.
