I have a Nord Stage 2 (73-key version) which I am using with several of the artists I work for now. I have Programs set up where I have an electric piano for use in the verses on Slot A, and a synth sound which I use in the choruses on Slot B.
At the moment, when we break from verse to chorus, I have to hold down both "Slot" buttons so I can layer both these sounds (electric piano, with synth layered on top) during the chorus - however, I would like to set up my control pedal (I currently use a Yamaha FC-5 pedal, plugged into the "Control Pedal" socket on the Stage 2) to perform this fucntion instead, so that I don't have to take my hands away from the keys in order to add the synth layer whilst playing.
I have tried to set this function up already, using "Morph Assign" on the control pedal, but so far have had no luck. Am I doing it wrong (I just press and old the "Ctrl Ped Morph Assign" button, and then perform the Slot change manually, before releasing all the buttons) or is what I want to achieve not possible on the Stage 2? If there is another way around this, or any if anyone has any suggestions for different solutions, I would be very grateful to know of them!
Thanks,
Kit Marsden

Re: Controlling Slots via a control pedal
Hi Kit & welcome to the forums!
I think switching or selecting Panels is not morphable. But you could try to just always have both Panels activated and morph the volume, that is, on the Panel with the Synth, use morph and turn the volume know of the Synth section.
This way it should work I guess (I am not sure though, sicne I always use a continuous pedal as control pedal (such as the FC-7), but maybe a simple ON/OFF pedal just switches between the two extreme values??
Hope that helps!
Cheers!

Re: Controlling Slots via a control pedal
Thanks, Johannes!
I tried that method, but couldn't get it to work with the FC-5; however, I then changed to the FC-7 pedal instead, and your way of keeping both Slots on permanently, but controlling the volume of Slot B from the Morph Assign, worked beautifully!
It's a same in a way, as I don't actually need to be able to control the volume of the Slots independently, just switch them on and off - and this will now mean having to carry an extra pedal around on the road. But it does achieve what I wanted it to, and I doubt I would've thought of that method without asking here, so I'm pleased to have got something sorted for it!
Cheers,
Kit

Kit
Welcome to the Nord User forum.
It's nice to see someone else in Norwich with a Nord Stage 2, I thought I was the only one (Got a great deal from PMT in Anglia Square for the HA88 which i've gigged a few times now and I am really pleased with).
All the best

I, too, use a FC-7 with my NS2 to do exactly this and it works fantastically. I've set up a footswitch that sends alternating Slot select MIDI commands to allow me to swap Slots with the footswitch anytime, but that scratches a different itch.

Hi Geoff! Good to see another Norwich-based musician here! Who do you play for? Anyone local?
I got my Stage 2 SW73 at the Anglia Square PMT as well. I've only gigged it a couple of times so far (although that will all change soon, as I have plenty of work coming up with the artist I mentioned in my original post!) but I have used it on a few studio sessions too, and have always been really happy with the way it performs.
Let me know if you're playing in the city any time soon, and I'll see if I can come down!

Re: Controlling Slots via a control pedal
Kit,
Looking at the band diary it seems we mostly have weddings and private parties over the coming months but hey if we do happen to do a pub gig in Norwich I'll let you know and likewise let me know if you have a gig.
