You can play two synths at the same time by activating one in Slot A and one in Slot B. You can choose to put them over the same key range if you want the sounds layered, or different key ranges if you want them split.

It's one of the easiest things to do. I guess that you already know that you have two panels (A and B) and how to activate and load sounds in each panel's Organ, Piano and Synth sections?
If so, then all you need to do is activate Panels A and B to play at the same time. You do this by pressing the Panel A and B buttons at the same time.
Hope this helps.
Spend more time with the manual, you'll learn quite a lot from that.

Is there any way to have layered 3 synth sounds?
I know normally it's not possible, but i want to layer
a sax, a brass and a trumpet. I guess i can't do that with the NS2?
On my roland i can create 3 layers for 1 sound, you can really make nice
sounds then

No, you can't layer 3 synth sounds, only 2. But in the Nord Sample Library, there are some samples in the Brass category that already include layers of different brass instruments, or sections.

As Santa has said, you can't layer three sounds (as seperate controllable sounds from the Stage) but you could sample the output of the Stage to create a layered sound and this could in theory be multiplied many times to create very interesting results (although you would need to take care not to degrade the quality of the sound through resampling - unless of course that was what you were looking to achieve).
The limitations of the Stage 2 regarding synth layering actually make you have to think "outside of the box" and this can result in some interesting possibilities.
I just need the time to get my studio set up to record and layer bits from the Stage as well as my other gear.
Many people on this Forum record the output of the Stage 2 (or other sources) using Audacity which I understand is freeware and you can use this to make the Wav files needed to make nsmp files and mp3 demos of your sounds to share.
Happy sampling.......

Re: combining 2 synth presets into 1 with 2 layers
Hi guys - I know this is an old thread but having issues. I've read through the manual multiple times. I have 2 programs that I want to combine to one program slot (one on slot A and one on slot B) to play them both together. I can move programs around but how do I specifically save a program to one slots A or B specifically? Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

Unfortunately you're thinking about it the wrong way. This is a common misunderstanding.
The slots are actually within the Program, so you can't put a Program into a slot.
The Program is what you are always actually working with, and everything is contained within that Program. So a Program contains the two slots A and B, not the other way around. Think of the two slots as the two halves that go to make up a single Program.
There is no way to combine two separate Programs as such, the Stage loads and uses one Program at a time.
it can sometimes be possible to create a fresh Program so that you can combine the parts of each of your two Programs into one, but this very much depends on what sounds are used in each of your two Programs. The Stage has an absolute limit of two organs, two pianos and two synth/samples per Program.
One thing you can do is copy an entire slot from one Program to another, so if you're lucky you might be able to get your combined Program that way. You can copy either slot A or B from one Program into either slot A or B in another Program.

Re: combining 2 synth presets into 1 with 2 layers
Red Leo - I really appreciate this explanation. It helps very much. I would be fine with copying the entire slot A from one program to the slot B of another program. That may get me to where I want to be. Can you tell me how to do this? I couldn't find it in the manual and have fooled around with the board for hours with no luck.
