Hi everyone,

Today I picked up a Samson Graphite 49 to use as a secondary keyboard. However things didn't really go to plan - I plugged it in with my 9v power supply, MIDI'd it up and switched it on. Nothing happened at first, then there was a huge bang and smoke started pouring out of the thing along with a smell of burning plastic. Before I replace it with another one I just want to check with you all that what I did was ok.

"It powers up to 1700Ma max". I normally use it for my guitar pedals which run at 100Ma. The keyboard needs 9v 300Ma so I assumed (correctly?) that the power supply would be fine.

Was it just a defect with the keyboard that caused the problem?

Did the Samson not come with its own power supply? Speaking personally, I've found Samson equipment to be the cheapest gear made and would not recommend it, but presumably it should work. Are you certain of the polarity match? Some are tip positive and others tip negative...

Thanks for the reply Pablo. No it doesn't ship with a power supply as it's also USB bus powered - which is probably how the majority of people use it rather than with traditional MIDI. Will double check polarity symbol
