Re: Best way to get my sound set into a rented Stage 2?

Wow. Thanks for the heads up on the firmware ksira. I will more than likely wind up needing to play some out of town shows with this band in the future, so my intention is to pick up a bang-around laptop for this purpose. I might have been sunk if not for your post. I will keep this in mind! Thanks!

Bumping this thread as I am in the same situation as when I first asked this question. The previous responses I got were outstanding, but hoping some of you may be able to provide some further clarification on a couple of points:
1 - If I am understanding correctly, creating a bundle with the programs I need (25-30 total, in my case) will automatically include any non-stock samples in my SW73 that are used by those particular programs. Will I need to first clear sample memory on the target instrument (an HA88) to accommodate those non-stock samples, or is this something that is handled automatically upon downloading the bundle to the new instrument?
2 - ksira mentioned previously that it is imperative to bring a copy of the firmware to update the target instrument in the event of a problem. Forgive my ignorance with regards to the terminology, but by firmware are we referring to the most recent OS? I only see a link to download the most recent OS on Nord's site . . . nothing mentioning firmware that I saw. Again, sorry if this is a silly question.

Thanks everyone.

2) most recent OS updater application is handy to have just in case the backline unit provided for you has not been updated; yes, same thing as firmware

1) bundles will include all pianos/samples needed to completely reproduce all selected programs. Best practice will be to use Nord Sound Manager to delete an entire bank of programs, and also to delete some pianos and samples to free up space sufficient to load the component parts of your bundle.

Bumping this thread because I need clarity on things that were not directly addressed.

Doing the bundle thing is quick according to what I am reading.
Can I bundle all the programs/banks and cut down on transfer time?

And if you bundle you mentioned having to make room on the target device.
If I bundle the whole thing will it over write everything on it's own
or
will it fail during the process and flag you dont't have enough room because the target has all the samples from the previous user?
in other words does it push out samples to make room or bundling everything tells the software to clear all on target/write all on target from the bundle.

I already know to take OS so they match and a laptop is a must no matter what you have.

I am in a similar situation. I have need for many different programs.
I fly in the day of the show. I'm having to set up a crap ton of programs to replicate what I can do on a Kurzwel with one or two.
Maybe 3-4 per song on most. Song list is a huge variety and I can't play just piano or organ or clav or strings or a synth tag.
That would make it so easy.
This all requires signature sounds and a large variety of little things that make the songs.

Can't get the Kurz Forte. I have 8 days to make this work. (gulp!!)
Probably should have upgraded to stage 3 last year just for set list functionality. Oh well.

Thanks

John

Hi,

it will not push out unused samples if you load bundles and the available space is not sufficient. If you want to get this you would have to do a full backup of your stage 2 and restore this backup on the other one. The "problem" is that doing a full backup and also full restore needs probably much more time than loading individual bundles, depending on the number and size of the individual bundles.

Also make sure that both Stage 2 are at the same OS version

Bundles on Stage 3 are limited to one bank max. each. Think this will be the same with the Stage 2.

With the Stage 3, a restore will skip all Pianos and Samples that are already in the unit so the restore will go faster and is probably your best bet. I can backup from my NS3-HA88 and restore to my NS3C in two minutes if no samples need to be added (Program and Song updates only). Is that the same with the NS2?

If so, unless I needed to preserve what was in the rental unit, I would opt for the full restore to make sure there was room for everything I had. If a sample needed to be loaded with a full restore, it will need to be loaded with a bundle as well, so no time lost there, other than maybe cleaning space for the existing samples that would be deleted.

Is it possible that you could call the rental company and ask them to at least load the piano samples you will be using in-advance? Make sure you specify size, because if you need and L and there is only an M loaded, you will need to load the L, saving you no time.
