Application to optimse Piano Library sounds in Stage2 ?

Postby cookie » 03 Dec 2017, 15:08

Hello Stage users !

Forgive me if this has been already discussed in the previous threads.
The piano library contains many files many of which have different quality (XL, Lrg...).
We have limited 500M (and 1G in the EX) space and have to make compromise.

Did anyone already come up with an application/program that would calculate and propose a list of optimised sounds that fit in the remaining Piano space, based on a first selection.
Say I would like ALL the EPs : what are all the Grand Pianos that would fit in the remaining memory ?
Of course, need to definie precisely the interface and goals but this could be interesting in order to optimise the memory of our instruments.

Sounds like a job for a really, really basic spreadsheet. Do you have Excel or Numbers?

There are 118 files that could fit into the Piano library memory.
This opens up lots of possibilities !
I already started and have all the file names, sizes, category and sub-categories inside a single XLS sheet.

Now, the idea is to apply constraints to a request and to see what the different possible options are.
Basic idea is of course to have smart calculations :
* calculate combinations limited by memory amount
* 1 sound per sub-category (9 categories/49 sub-categories)
* possibility to select/unselect specific sounds or category from the selection

For i.e. : Say I select all the Electric Pianos (157,6Mb) and the Digital pianos that are not DX7 (DigiGrand 1&2 = 20,4Mb). Show me all the possibilities for the Grand Pianos (in the remaining 500-157,6-20,4=322Mb).

Some good macros programming in perspective !

Fred

BTW, what is the exact amount of Mb in the Piano library (524288000 bytes) ?

A kilobyte is 1024 bytes, and a megabyte is 1024 kilobytes. So 524288000 bytes = 512 mb.

 That would be a neat program! And if possible you could include the RAM available in a few other models too.
I think you better check and do some tests. The nominal amount of space is not fully available (I bet it is like other devices like hard- and USB drives where the formatting requires some space to allocate the data).

Yep, the EX versions will increase the # of combinations, quite significally.
I also agree I need to make some tests to see first the exact amount of bytes in RAM, as well as verifying that adding the 5894730 bytes of the Clavinet will really substract 5894730 bytes from the remaining RAM.

Tests first, then I'll think about the macros in Excel (or if there are some interested programers around, could be much faster) !
Maybe this feature could then also be integrated in the Nord Manager program...

Can you share the excel sheet so I don't have to enter all the models again? Would be great to build something together :)
