Hi,
Does anyone have an advice for a sound to use for Jamiroquai "Rock Dust Like Star" intro?
I'm just beginning to learn...
Thanks,
Fabien

Re: Jamiroquai Rock Dust Like Star Intro Synth
What gear do you have to use?
Jamiroquai keyboardist Matt Johnson uses an Alesis Andromeda A6, Nord Wave, and Rhodes EP live. He appears to use the A6 for the sound live, but the same sound can be created with the Nord Wave.
The synth patch itself is very simplistic. It sounds like he's using an 8' saw wave single oscillator "or no detuning if multiple oscillators" through a 4 pole lo pass filter with the resonance turned up very high, but not to the point of self-oscillation.
Overall the filter cutoff frequency is primarily being modulated by sine, or triangle wave LFO with a very slight amount of slow decay envelope.
It's a sound that you'd expect from a vintage minikorg 700s, or similar synth.
I have found the following site to be very informative for synthesis http://www.beausievers.com/synth/synthbasics/

Hello Fabien,
Thought I'd have a go at the sound on my Stage EX.
This is close enough to give you a head start.
