Hello forum.
I am new to Nord Stage EX, never tried a synth or e-piano in my life before…
But I have read the manuals for EX and Sound Manager.
I have used Sound Manager for backup, uploading, downloading program, delete, rename etc.
So many hours spend to help my girlfriend, a classic educated pianist, to get two “good sounds” from Nord Stage EX, in two KB Zones.
We have tested a lot and did find two great programs in this forum.
A – Supersonic (Dual Panel with two KB Zones)
B - VIVALDI_STRINGS (Dual Panel with two KB Zones)
From Supersonic I want the lower end, from Vivaldi_Strings the upper end.
After trying and reading – can’t join two programs into one, so at last I took a photo of the front panel, each for the Panel A and Panel B of Vivaldi_Strings.
So starting with Supersonic , moved the Zones in both Panels, and started with the upper Zones for Vivaldis two Panels.
But I can’t get the sound of Vivaldi_Strings. My photo shows “the visible” things, but many parameters are hidden.
Somewhere I have read a both midi sysex and patch editor.
What to do?
Use my ears for days or dive into an patch editor to get the secrets of Vivaldi_Strings?

Re: Best of 2 programs into 1
I do not have a NS EX, so I cannot try, but if the 2 slots overlap somehow, depending on how the programs are made, there might be no way of doing what you want. You might need 4 slots.

Re: Best of 2 programs into 1
Hi Sveinpetter,
Mr G. is almost certainly correct, but failed to elaborate in a way in which you, as a novice to this instrument, will easily understand.
Each Panel (renamed to "Slot" in the Stage 2) contains a maximum possibility of three onboard sound engines: an organ, a piano and a synth. Thus, with two Panels/Slots one has a max of six onboard sounds happening at once. It will be HUGELY important for you to fully understand this in order to fully understand the instrument.
I do have an EX but frankly don't feel like going to trouble of loading these programs right now (it's past 2am here) and anyway you will gain more knowledge and understanding from doing this for yourself...
To determine whether your desired "mega-program" will be possible, first examine the SUPERSONIC program's basic settings on each of the two Panels. Don't sweat the details right now. All you need to know is which instrument sections are being used in the lower zone of the program to produce the sound you want. Be sure to check both panels. Now switch to the VIVALDI program and do the same thing for the upper zone. Please send us the results of your exploration to continue this analysis in detail...
...but in the meantime, let me create an illustrative example which may help you: suppose that SUPERSONIC uses both a Panel A synth and a Panel B synth in the low zone, and that VIVALDI uses both a Panel A synth and a Panel B synth in the high zone. That's four synths and you only have two to work with in a single program. That's what Mr G. meant by "you might need 4 slots" (keeping in mind that what Nord used to call a Panel is now called a Slot) Conceptually he is right about that, but that's not particularly useful to you because the instrument does not have 4 slots/panels -- it has two.
Successful "marriages" between two programs will always hinge on one major consideration: can the entirety of each individual sound be produced in full with the available sounds at hand: two organs, two pianos and two synths.
Hope this helps...if you'd like specific analysis on your specific scenario, please post back to the forum with the internal details of each of the two panels for each of the two programs -- what instrument sections are required to produce the sounds you want, and we can offer specific advice on your desired situation. (if need be, I can be cajoled into loading those programs into my EX...)
Bless,
Pablo

Re: Best of 2 programs into 1
Thanks a lot to Mr_-G- and pablomastodon!
Let me guess pablomastodon, you must be a teacher….
“,with two Panels/Slots one has a max of six onboard sounds happening at once”
“That's four synths and you only have two to work with in a single program”
“Successful "marriages" between two programs will always hinge on one major consideration: can the entirety of each individual sound be produced in full with the available sounds at hand: two organs, two pianos and two synths.“
I do now understand, and will stop trying to do impossible settings.
Yesterday I downloaded Ctrl and Patch Editor to get all the settings in a program to recreate them in another program, but I guess I stop that too.
Have not access to the EX before the weekend, so I can’t give more details now.
Again, thanks.

Re: Best of 2 programs into 1
Hi,
More of a student than a teacher, but find that I learn things more deeply when attempting to teach them, so I have personal benefit, too.
First I heard of Patch Editor and will have to go check that out, but you may find that CTRL will still be useful for "dissecting" programs and learning how different sounds are created, most especially within the Synth Section. The newer NS2 has the ability to easily tell you the exact parameter setting for any knob, but that was developed after the Classic/EX went out of production, so CTRL may be the best tool for that.
Happy Nording!
