What's different about the PIANO sound of NP1 vs NP2
I've found a pretty good deal on the original Nord Piano. What's the difference as far as the sound of the piano? I don't care about the sample section or the delay effect included on the NP2.
My understanding is that the NP2 has 'advanced' resonance, but does it make much difference to the sound? Is the action the same? And is there anything else I should be aware of?
Thanks very much in advance for any replies.

Re: What's different about the PIANO sound of NP1 vs NP2
It appears that perhaps there is an accidental omission in the little chart re: Nord Gen 2 resonance; it fails to list the NP. The NP does, however, have Nord Gen 2 "advanced" resonance as shown on the NP product page. Sonically, the NP and NP2 should be identical when the same piano model is loaded and the same f/x settings selected. Same action.

Pablo

Re: What's different about the PIANO sound of NP1 vs NP2
if you missed it, here you have a detailed comparison
http://www.nordkeyboards.com/products/n ... ison-chart
as you can see, the piano section is identical between the two models, the only difference in the Piano 2 is the added sample playback capability with splits and layers.
But if you're only interested in pianos, the 1 has nothing less than the 2: same action, same memory. Go for it!

Just in case it's a useful supplement to the answers already - here's a couple of pics so you can see what you get extra on the NP2.

Re: What's different about the PIANO sound of NP1 vs NP2
Update:
I just ordered the Nord Piano with triple pedal, and it should be delivered next week! Needless to say I'm looking forward to it!
I've had a Nord Stage Classic and a Stage EX, but neither had generation 2 resonance or the long release feature (or as much memory), so I'm curious to hear how much of a difference these features will make.

great choice, especially if you got a good deal, you won't regret it!michael_C1 wrote:Update:

The differences in sound greatly depend on your amplification system, it DOES make a big difference to hear all the subtle nuances.
Best thing is enjoying the sound through a good pair of headphones, that way the different personalities of the many pianos really shine through!
The expanded memory is also a big plus: the L and XL versions definitely have more nuances and depth then the M and S.
With 500 MB you can load two XL models (or 4-5 L ones) and evaluate and compare them side by side.
So try out all the different sounds, keep the ones you like best, and most of all enjoy!!!
PS
oh, and welcome to the Christmas Club "OMG-Clavia-Released-A-New-Piano-Sound-Now-I-Don't-Know-Which-One-To-Erase-INEEDMOREMEMORY!!!!"

Thanks Spider,
I've got good headphones and a pair of EV ZLX12p's for speakers. I like how those speakers reproduce piano, although they're a bit bright, but that can be compensated for.
Yes, the memory club! 500mb is twice what I've ever had before, so that will be enjoyable- for a while.

Re: What's different about the PIANO sound of NP1 vs NP2
I think you guys forgot to mention that the NordPiano2 also has a delay.
Frankly, I'm still digging my original NP88, but the sample/layer capability and delay would make this board a lot more flexible. I often need to put a pad or DX7-style EP Bell behind the acoustic piano. And sometimes I miss that delay on Rhodes solos.
Regarding the ZLX12P, it makes the NP's acoustic sounds pretty harsh. Although it seems to mellow out a little when the speaker has been broken in.

Wait - there's a memory difference between the NP and the NP2?Spider wrote:michael_C1 wrote:

The current chart says they're both 500MB (2015-Apr-13):
