Touch response

Postby Inside_Joke » 05 Oct 2012, 13:19

Hi all,

I am a new happy user of the np2, what a improvement over softsynths and my Roland RD!

But.. When playing pp, so realy soft, i feel the the touch response is quite dull. Playing mp and ff or even fff the NP2 is outstanding, but i feel the response could be more subtile in the p/pp area.

My idea would be to:

A. Add one ore more layers in the pp area
B. To add a more soft response in the next OS change

Any others hv the same experience?
Greets,

Lemon

We've all been wanting more dynamic response since the Nord Piano 1 came out. Customers have also expressed their wish for a better keyboard in pair with these dynamic changes for the Nord Piano 2.

What we got instead was a NP/Stage hybrid and the straying away from a niche piano model from Nord. Quite unfortunate.

In my opinion it's about touch but it's also about sampling. I like the punchy and clear character of Bright grand but IMO it does not have enough timbral variety in pianissimo or piano velocities. Try to play for example Chopin Funeral March (op. 28, no. 20, pp section) and you know what I mean. What I would like to have is more detailed Yamaha type of grand which have wider timbral palette from ppp to fff and which can be used in all styles from classical to jazz and rock. And yes, I have played quite a lot with real yammy grand and it sounds great in all those styles...

Yes, pp and ppp is where the NP falls short a little. They need the softer tone there, right now it sounds like an mp/mf sample triggered at a lower volume.

In the evolution of the NP i think there are a few major steps to make this a 'perfect' instrument, dynamics should get the most attention in my opinion. Secondly, velocity switches/ layers for the user sample module. Then it isnt just a gimmick but a grown part of the NP2. Thanks for the input you all.
