Single sustain pedal that works properly with P3?

Postby SteveNordP3 » 21 Jun 2017, 05:22

I'm thinking of using the triple pedal only at home or for recording (honestly - I rarely if ever use more than the sustain pedal). I've been thinking of traveling/playing out with only a sustain pedal. I've noticed that a single pedal does sustain - however - it does not produce the sizzle and thump samples and to my ears, the sound is subtly different. I'm 100% confident no one listening would know this. But I find I miss it and it detracts from my joy.

Other topics in these forums discuss something similar but searching them and the internet has not yet turned up a specific recommendation for a single pedal to not only get sustain but also to trigger these other nuanced features with the Nord.

Any thoughts/suggestions/pointers are welcome. Thanks!

Single sustain pedal that works properly with P3?

Unfortunately the NP can only use on/off pedals or the Triple pedal and only the latter can generate pedal dynamics; the Triple uses rubber switches like a keyboard so you cannot connect a standard Continuous Sustain pedal (such as the Roland DP10, to make an example) directly because all those models use a potentiometer instead, so not only the cabling but also the way they work is different.

The alternative would be to have a Continuous Sustain connected to an external Master or a MIDI Foot Controller box (Midisolutions' or similar) to generate Continuous Sustain MIDI CC messages and send them to the NP3 via MIDI

PS: experts in DYI may also create an equivalent of the Triple Pedal's sustain only, but I guess you are not one to go for this solution yourself (otherwise you wouldn't have asked ;) )

The other nuanced features are velocity sensitive (I mean with the pedal velocity), isn't it?

Will it be enough to have them with fixed velocity?

There is no optin to have them triggered at fixed velocity...

I was thinking of putting one contact beneath a regular sustain pedal... but If I'm already there I can put also the second contact there, if there is enough room.... then only the circuitry will be missing.

Are there any schematics of the triple pedal available?

Ramon
