Hi Dave,

It's also wise to keep only a reasonable number of keyboards ;)

From what I read on the forum, and my own impression, each tune and place (gig) has its own sound & setting that will make playing comfortable, and the Nord is designed to find this on the fly.

More generally speaking, it's not easy to switch from a sound to another.
I have admiration for guys playing great things in uncomfortable situation, on an old detuned piano for instance.
In some (extreme) situation you "play", it does not sound as expected, then you (may) get used to it (and the audience too !).

Cheers,
Frantz.

Dave, I like your recordings a lot and am always interested in what you post.
Count me among those who look forward to a NP3 with a serious action for pianists (and, while they're at it they can improve the treble as well). I'm sure if that happens we will see some enlightened posts from you again, sooner or later...

Sold my Nord Stage 2 HA88 yesterday. So long my red friend. It was a bittersweet experience. I will miss it. It's in good hands with a prominent sound rental company on Long Island, NY. It's good knowing that it will make others happy. We had many nice times together during the past 3 1/2 years. However, I never felt properly connected with the acoustic piano samples. Not sure if it was the physical keybed action, velocity curves, samples, or some combination. Bottom line: I struggled when playing the acoustic piano samples. Bought a CP4 and love it -- I feel totally connected with the action and sound -- and still have my Electro 4D. Here's one of my fonder memories which was captured on video:

Dave Ferris wrote:I have done a few gigs now , both jazz and rock stuff with the CP4. It's great in some ways but I will say I miss the Nord Piano. It's such a different animal, tonally speaking. And offers an organic characteristic I'm missing in the Yamaha ...on certain types of tunes. We all know how well the Nord pianos sit in the mix with bass & drums. Every gig is different and there always are extenuating circumstances, but on a few instances the CP4 hasn't been as clear as the Nord was.

This is what I keep coming back to. Yes, the NP action is mediocre, and yes, the CP's action is better, but in every other way the NP wins for me, every time. It feels much more lively and organic, and it lets me connect with little effort.

There is a number of things I do not like about my (formerly 'your'!) NP88, but that is more about limited functionality and connectivity.

I have a terrible habit of re-buying something that I sell months later.

:thanks:
