Postby sprazer » 21 Feb 2014, 15:47

Hey guys, I'm getting the nord piano...

but do you guys think Nord Piano 3 is coming out soon?
should I wait?

I live in a country where the average income is $500 a month with a university degree , I mean I really saved up my ass for this piano. I don't wanna end up buying nord piano 2 and be slapped that next 2 months nord piano 3 is coming out lol

I will appreciate any thoughts given

thank you and have a nice day guys

Hi Sprazer,

There are two main trade shows at which Nord (and most all instrument makers) debut their new products in order to make the biggest possible media splash: Winter NAMM in Anaheim (in January), and Musik Messe (in March or April). This year Messe begins March 12, just a few weeks away.

There are no guarantees here, but it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that any radically new developments in Nord's product line will occur at any other time of the year. Sure, the Electro 4 SW73 and HP73 were exceptions to this rule, but the NE4D was released at Messe already, so the subsequent release of two new versions of the essentially identical model (except for memory) was not so earth-shattering.

Thus, if you wait until Messe and nothing new happens, it is most likely that there will be nothing new in the Piano line (or any other) at least until next year's Winter NAMM.

Bless,

Pablo

If there's nothing new in March, I would be extremely confident about your purchase. Nord's entire reputation and success is derived from the quality and quantity of their constantly evolving sample libraries. Unlike an Electro, where each generation is slowly adding more memory, the Nord Piano has plenty of space for ALL of their electric pianos and most of their acoustic pianos.

This core element will not change any time soon, and thus the instrument will only improve with time:)

That would be purely speculation...and a pointless exercise.

It's always the same in most things tech related. "Should I wait another year??"

My advice is for you to think if you need it. If you do, wait until MESSE has passed and if no new Nord Piano 3 is released (I think we won't see anything new from Nord) then go ahead and buy the Nord Piano 2. Even if a new NP3 is released, if you bought the NP2 because it was what you needed, it will most likely still be covering your needs.

Saludos,
Gustavo

Also keep in mind that Nords are particularly strong at retaining value over time. Some of the offerings from "those other guys" begin their existences at price points similar to Nord, but can be had on eBay a scant few months later for ~US$650. Not so with Nord. This allows for the possibility of buying current model now and if something new comes out, you'll still be able to get a high percentage of your initial investment back on a resale, and put those funds towards the new instrument.
