Piano2 sample sounds volume

Postby lamplighter » 20 Aug 2015, 13:31

Hi.I would appreciate any advice on how to get more volume from the sample sounds on my piano2. Piano sounds volume is ok but sample sounds are very low. With master volume nearly full on, piano volume is ok about half way but the samples sounds are still very low for live playing even on full volume) Thank you.

I don't seem to have the same problem you have -- sample volumes are great for me on my Nord Piano 2. I'm using the stock samples, nothing fancy.

Did you remember that every time you switch back to a stored program, the volume automatically resets to the stored value, regardless of the position of the front knobs? Perhaps you saved them at a low volume?
I think I have gear issues ....

I agree, my NP2 is plenty loud direct or in headphones. There's lot's of headroom in the factory programs to up the volume.

Thanks to everyone for reply.I have restored piano several times to factory settings but sampled sounds remain same low volume.I can't find any other volume setting apart from the master and sample knobs.or is there a menu setting somewhere I have missed.

Are you changing the volume under the piano section and the master volume? The sample volume will have no effect on piano sounds.

Sample volume can be controlled via an expression pedal as well as the front knob. Do you have any sort of pedal plugged into the Volume Pedal input?

See page 20 of the Nord Piano 2 manual, downloadable from the Nord website.

Some sample sounds are certainly louder than others. For instance, I noticed that once the Mellotron samples are at an appropriate volume, the treble becomes fuzzy and shrill. Surely that has something to do with the original nature of the tapes. Another factor is the lack of velocity layers in .nsmp files, which means you have to tailor the volume to whatever dynamic range you normally hang out in. The compressor and EQ are your best friends.
