Piano 3 keybed service

Postby mikep » 02 Feb 2017, 17:57

Hello, this is my first post, so I will apologize for making my first entry problem-related. My A above middle C has an incredibly slow return when released. It doesn't matter if i play hard or soft. So slow that it makes playing unenjoyable. Does anyone know of a Nord service center anywhere near Virginia? I'm in the Richmond area. Thanks for any and all help.

Unfortunately I bought it second hand from a guy in NY. I believe he bought it from Sweetwater. I certainly don't mind paying a service fee if it will get fixed. I will email Nord service and see what they recommend. I thought someone on the forum may have had similar issues.

Pablo has a list of authorized repair techs that he can send you. Three of them seem to be in VA. My experience with a guy in FL was pretty good, fixed several broken keys, cleaned and lubed, plays better than new, at a reasonable cost.
I think I have gear issues ....

I've had this problem with other keyboards that use Fatar actions. A tech guy that I had my instrument repaired with told me it had to deal with the guide pins right where the keys go up and down (in the front, toward you). He did an easy fix of bending it back into position. He said it happens because Fatar uses a relatively thin metal underneath the rubber cushion and they can bend over time. If you can find someone who repairs digital pianos around you, it should be relatively cheap. There were no parts needed when I had mine repaired a few years back.

Thanks guys, I just got that list from Pablo. There is a place in Charlottesville, about an hour from me. I appreciate the help!

In case anyone was interested, here's my update so far. It appears someone went in and did some serious messing around with the springs of about 15 or 20 of the keys. The service tech Roger at Universal Electronics in Charlottesville showed me several examples. Some of the little springs had been stretched to about twice their normal length. I got back in touch with the guy I bought the Piano 3 from. He provided a much more detailed history of the keyboard this time around. He said he bought it "new open box" from a Guitar Center in New York. He thought it wasn't playing great so he took it to a Nord tech up there. The tech also said the same thing Roger said..."someone has been in here messing around." He asked his tech to get things back to normal as he intended to sell it (to me). I asked Roger to ask Nord if I could just pay for a replacement keybed and have this ordeal overwith. I hope they agree and hope it isn't too costly. Waiting to hear back.

I just wanted to thank Pablo for taking the time to talk with my local tech Roger to help establish a game plan for my Piano 3.
