Hi all!
Currently using (and loving) the NP3 as my main DP, but also as my main weighted controller keyboard, connected to an iMac running Logic.
While playing the internal sounds the velocity response and expressiveness of the NP3 is outstanding, but i've noticed that as a midi controller the velocity response seem to be very hard to use.
I find it impossible to trigger a full 127 velocity over midi, actually anything above 120 seem downright impossible. I know there are ways to compensate for this in software, but should't the MIDI output at least cover the full 0-127 range without external compensation?
I understand that the NP3 is not a midi master keyboard, and that we might not get to tweak velocity curves and so on, but being able to at least trigger the full range seem like a minimum for a midi implementation?
Have I perhaps missed anything, or should i hope for a future software update?

Even if you can't reach 127 it should not be a big problem from a practical standpoint, sometimes some keyboards have the opposite one (reaching 127 too easily); however not a big loss (7 steps out of 127) but in general on a HA you may also try to play the keys actually "faster" (not "harder" or "stronger") i.e. making the vertical movement of the key very fast, to get that "127".

Re: NP3 Velocity over MIDI — can't reach 127.
Hello,
Regarding MIDI transmitting : does NP3 transmit something to logic via midi, when you use the triple sensor technology, when you hit the key before it's totally up again ?
Does hit transmit the smallest velocities when you play fast ?
Is there a difference between what you can play, and what you can record via midi into logic ?
Thank you very much for your answer
Alex

When I connect my Nord Piano 3 to my Yamaha S30 via MIDI or my IPhone it doesn't seem to send the bottom triggered tones. I can hear them from my Nord but not from the S30 or garage band on my IPhone.

Thank you very much Kaljo,
What a pity... so it seems impossible to record the true performance on a DAW to edit it after...

Re: NP3 Velocity over MIDI — can't reach 127.
I have tested the NP3 with LOCAL off, and a MIDI cable autoloop, and i confirm that the lowest velocities (bottom triggered) are not transmitted, and more overall the expressive character of the keybed totally disappears...
So it is very much more a stage Piano than an instrument for recording...
You have to record it without possibility of further editing or quantizing, and better without on board reverb if you want to mix it later... very limiting i find..
It should be stated more clearly by Clavia, i think...

Re: NP3 Velocity over MIDI — can't reach 127.
Yeah. The manual does state that some parts of the three-sensor keybed information (probably bottom triggering) is not transmitted via MIDI so this is no huge surprise.
I do however find it strange that the midi that is transmitted doesn't even cover the full 1-127 range. Can anyone else here trigger velocity 127 over midi from the NP3?
I noticed that the NS3 have separate velocity curves for external midi transmission. Something like this would be great. Or just making the three internal velocity curves (for the piano part) work over MIDI as well. Or at LEAST make the one fixed external curve reach all the way to 127.

Re: NP3 Velocity over MIDI — can't reach 127.
Good news!
The latest OS update for my Nord Piano 4 has a new midi out velocity curve section in the settings with three shapes 'light', 'medium' and 'heavy' - and ALL of them can easily achieve midi velocity 127.
So, whilst it was a joke before, at least Nord have finally come good and fixed the well known issue.
Thanks Nord

Hello yourbadmemory (it‘s impossible for me to write it with „my“, please forgive me),
you can always check the updates for your NP3 here:
