I am considering the NP2 88 but have a question about layering. I understand the board can do layering between the sample synth and piano sections, but can those layers be limited to specific ranges of the keyboard? If I layer strings with piano, I would like the strings to cutoff at say C4 or some other point on the board.

Hi Oyarsa,

No. The NS2 can do this, but not the NP2. On the NP2 there are two sections which can independently be turned on or off. When both are on, both are layered full range until/unless the SPLIT button is engaged. The SPLIT button allows two conditions: piano above synth and synth above piano. That is the sum total of split/layer/zone control on the NP2.

There is a posisble workaround: by creating custom samples which cutoff at your specified point you can achieve this, but one would need to author those custom samples to do it.

Thanks Pablo. Would it be possible to take an existing Nord sample, bring it into the Sample Editor, edit the key range, re-save and voila! you have your custom sample, no?

No you cannot edit the samples in nsmp or npno formats.
