Hi everyone,
Bear with me for a while, I just want to confirm a few of things, as I'm looking to buy the Nord Piano 2.
For me, the Stage 2's pricetag is a little too hefty, and coming from a family of piano players, I kind of need to clarify a few things (having tried out the Piano 2 as well)
1) Can the Nord Piano 2 load EVERY single piano/sample sound from the Nord library? Or are there some sounds that are only compatible with certain Nord models?
2) Can the Nord Piano 2 split ANY 2 sounds on the keyboard? From what I tried, there seemed to be presets for the splits, but I couldn't figure out how to set the specific sound I wanted for each half split.
3) Can the Nord Piano 2 act as a MIDI controller? For software such as Logic Pro.
4) Finally, why is there a difference with the Piano library and the Sample library? Why is the amount of space (500mb and 128mb respectively) varying for both libraries?
I'm so sorry if I'm asking too many questions and come across as wanting to be spoonfed, but the local keyboard guys didn't seem like they could give confident answers to my questions, so I'm taking it to you experts here.
Many regards,
Kin

Re: Nord sound library for every keyboard?
1) it can load any piano in the Nord Piano Library
2) you can split a Piano sound and a Synth (Sample) sound, not 2 Pianos or 2 Synths (though the latter can be achieved by modifying/resampling the sampled sounds and "splitting the sample set")
3) yes
4) Nord Piano library is for Piano, E.piano and Clavinet/Harpsichords family of instrumentsonly; these require sample sets with more samples along the keyboard (XL versions have sampes on each key) and each key being sampled at different velocities (layers); in some cases they require and use "release samples" (sample, of the sound after key release) too.
The other Samples (Nord Sample Library) are mainly intended to be used as waveforms of a synthesizer and as such are in general more simple, only 1 velocity layer is allowed and typically 1/2 samples per octave (or even less) are enough, so even with less memory you can actually store more of them (as number of different sounds) compared to the Piano section.

Hi, thank you so much for your reply! Just to clarify...
1) So I can only load pianos? What about the sample library?
2) But does this mean I can specifically choose the piano sound I want, together with the specific synth sound I want?

You need to find a place where they have the instrument in stock and test it thoroughly before deciding. Buying blindly is perhaps not a good idea. You also need to test the keybed feeling.

Yes, I've already tested it out at the store. Nord pianos are something of a rarity here in Singapore, they're like the boutique of boutique keyboard models. I very much like the feel of the instrument, but I had a lot of trouble trying to figure out all the functions...
Thank you all for your help!
Nord Piano 2 Library A&B
Hi All,
I have a Nord Piano 2.
I realise that Library A & B have the same sounds and the memory space was almost full. So I tried deleting one library hoping that it will free up some space.
When I did that, there was still no change in the memory space.
Anyone knows why it so?
I want to add some samplers in but can't because of insufficient space.
thanks

Re: Nord sound library for every keyboard?
Hi Carol,
Library A and B? Let's call them Bank A and Bank B. Those are PROGRAMS. Programs do not contain samples or pianos. They contain references to samples and pianos. Samples are located in the Sample Memory area; pianos are contained in the Piano Memory area. If you wish to make space for loading other new things, you need to select SAMP LIB or PIANO tab in Nord Sound Manager and then delete from those lists.
BLess,
Pablo
