Have you tried a different USB cable?

Re: Nord Piano OS corrupted
Hi Snerkler,
I tried the factory restore from the other computer, but it didn't work as it didn't recognize the piano as connected to transfer to it. :/
I'll see what Nord say if they get back to me!
Cheers!

Re: Nord Piano OS corrupted
Hi Walkerdata,
Yeah, I tried another usb with no luck unfortunately. I was actually just looking at something on the Nord site which mentioned about the different usb cable, and I noticed something interesting it said: "If connecting the Nord unit does not launch the hardware wizward on XP or Vista, try another (and perhaps shorter) usb cable".
Now when I uninstall the Clavia driver and connect the Nord then, it doesn't even launch that hardware wizard thing, it doesn't even realize that 'something' has been connected to the usb port. Yet when I turn it on in the special 'ready to receive' mode, the computer recognizes it straightaway. I'm thinking this is a possible indication the nord has something that needs fixing.
Cheers,
Mark

Re: Nord Piano OS corrupted
Actually disregard what I said about the 'hardware wizard', it is only meant to come up after the Clavia 3.0 driver has been installed, and the Nord is then plugged in - not if it's uninstalled and then plugged in, as I now understand from the manual.
It may well be the case that with no driver, the Nord does not cause a 'found new hardware wizard box' anyway.
But either way, it says that hardware wizard box should come up after the Clavia 3.0 driver been installed, and I've reinstalled the Clavia driver a few times, each time after that, attempting to connect the Nord, the computer not see the Nord, so I'm pretty sure, driver or not, no hardware wizards happen.

Re: Nord Piano OS corrupted
For further news on this, I've arranged to have the Nord replaced.
I've asked that if possible, that when they look at the piano I'm sending back, if they could inform me of what they had to do to fix it - because it would be interesting to know whether the Nord OS really did corrupt, or whether it was my drivers, or whether it was something stupid that I missed. I would like to be able to have some conclusion to post on this thread, whether it's the Nord, my computers, or me at fault.
And as for the new one that will hopefully be here in the next week or so...the Clavia driver 3.0 is installed, and ready - theoretically, if my current Nord is the problem, then the new Nord will connect straightaway! If it's my computer at fault, it won't...! Even if the tech support never tell me what was wrong, I'll at least be able to say how the new Nord and my computer got on!

Re: Nord Piano OS corrupted
BREAKING NEWS:
I just receive an email from tech support at Nord, (and I've cut down the email slightly):
Hi Mark
"I still wanted to let you know that we have found the cause of this error. This happened because the 1.40 OS could not start up properly if there were no Pianos in the unit. I only wish I'd have caught this bug, since you gave the necessary clues in your report.
This will of course be addressed in an update, I am very sorry for any frustration that this have caused you."
Cee, I don't know whether your experience of having no pianos in there was before the 1.40 update, or whether you just got lucky and it didn't error when you did it, but I would advise everybody who has a Nord piano, running OS 1.40, to never have ZERO instruments in there, or the bug may happen, and this has been confirmed by Nord.
Thanks to everyone who responded - I'm awaiting a replacement Nord Piano (I sent it back, and the replacement was out of stock, so I have to wait a bit more), and I'll make sure not to delete all the instruments again!

Re: Nord Piano OS corrupted
Mark, I'm pretty sure I deleted all my samples after I did the 1.40 update because I wanted to put the new 5.3 Long Release samples on there.
And mine didn't corrupt or anything.
I'm glad that you're getting a new one though!

Re: Nord Piano OS corrupted
Hi Cee,
Thanks very much for that - did you at any time turn the nord off and on whilst you had no sounds on it, or did you put new instruments on it before the next time you turned it off and on again?
If you've turned if off and on again, with no sounds in, and not had that problem I had, then I guess the problem does not always happen.
The smallest instrument (clavinet?) is about 6mb isn't it? So I think I will always have at least or some other small instrument on...I never actually need to have zero instruments on, even when I was trying to compare the two 200mb pianos, I could have left an instrument in there, so I think I will play it safe from now on, even if this bug does not happen 100% of the time, because if it does happen, I don't think there's any way to fix it other than sending the nord back.
ps: I agree with what you said earlier about it being the best piano in it's class. Maybe that's your subjective opinion...but I agree with it, lol! Since I've sent the Nord back, I have tried other digital pianos again at a store, just to make sure, because I still had the option of changing pianos - but none (to me) seem to give the same real piano sound as the nord does, not to mention it's a perfect gigging instrument weight-wise as well, so I'm happy enough just waiting for my replacement Nord to be mailed to me, and I'm relieved that my problem with my original Nord wasn't just my fault with usb drivers or my brain or something!
Thanks!
Mark

Re: Nord Piano OS corrupted
Yeah I don't think I turned it off..
The way I remember doing it was like this:
- Update to 1.4 (let it restart and everything) whilst I still had my old samples on
- Delete everything
- Re-up everything with the new sounds.
There was no powering off in between...
I've done a bit of research before ending up with the NP. You can read my review of it if you'd like, there's info in there, but yeah, I love the NP, I wouldn't want any other board when I don't have access to a real grand.
Cheers!

Re: Nord Piano OS corrupted
Cee, your review was one of the ones I read as I was initially making up my mind about buying it! Of course I tried it in the shop too, but but I always feel it's worth having other people's opinions on things, to see what they like or dislike about something, or to point out something I may not notice in the shop, so I was extremely grateful for your review, when I was looking at buying a digital piano!
For an update, to you and everyone reading this thread - I have received my replacement Nord Piano yesterday, and as suspected, it connected to my computer with no problems, and is working fine!
I strongly suspect, (although I may be wrong), that had I been able to put on an earlier OS (say, 1.30?) I would have been able to load one instrument on - and then reload the 1.40 OS, but I was never able to find an earlier version, and Clavia only have the latest drivers on their website (which is understandable - because in most cases no one would ever need an earlier OS for the Nord).
So I can't be sure of this, but if anyone ever turns their Nord Piano on with no instruments loaded, and it won't connect to the computer, then if you can, try obtaining an earlier version of the operating system (it might require an earlier 'sound manger' as well), get an instrument transferred onto it, and as soon as you have one instrument on, you should be safe to revert back to the 1.40 OS. I can't be sure this will work, but I suspect it might.
Or alternatively, don't switch it off with no instruments in it, at least till OS 1.50 is out
