You mentioned the RD2000 and NP3. Happened to see this yesterday fwiw. It's not real conclusive but I did prefer the sound of the Roland here. The Nord sounds a little raw...of course that's what many dig about it.
I would have liked to have heard a comparison with the Royal Grand sample as opposed to the Fazioli/Italian. The Royal , just listening to "'Round Midnight " on the Nord site, its the warmest , has the most body and is the least strident sounding piano I've heard from them.

Re: Nord Piano 3 Key knocking noise
Hi Dave. Have you tried Velvet Grand (Bluthner)?? This has become my favorite Nord piano for solo jazz. I find it very "mellow". Royal grand is a good alternative but second on my list.
Re: Nord Piano 3 Key knocking noise
No I can't say I have. I sold my NP2 in Sept. of '14 - before the Velvet and the other later samples were released. I've considered the NP3 but this latest Fatar keyboard problem on the NP3 has me a bit gun shy.

Re: Nord Piano 3 Key knocking noise
have had my piano 3 for 2 weeks. And I'm now having the exact same noise as the video In The first post. Any advice on what I should do? Liam. Australia

Re: Nord Piano 3 Key knocking noise
Is the serial number before or after PD11184? Boards before this were having problems which should have been rectified after PD11184 with extra felt added to the Keybed. I would return the NP3 anyway as it's a lot of money for a less than average Keybed. I desperately want to take the plunge and buy one but not until a decent Keybed is fitted.
Re: Nord Piano 3 Key knocking noise
@huw1952. Yes mine is before that number...it takes so long for Nords to come out to Australia so I assume there are no newer ones. They want to send it off for repair. Nords reply was hush hush not admiting the design fault. I think I might just got for a refund....do we know if any with post PD11184 have any problems?

Re: Nord Piano 3 Key knocking noise
In the US, a responsible company that designed, marketed and sold an expensive, high end but faulty product, and in as much admitted it was faulty to the extent that there was a "remedy" retrofitted solution for the design flaw, would or SHOULD recall all involved products so affected. Why hundreds or perhaps thousands of NP3 units shipped out in the first batches prior to serial # PD11184 with clearly demonstrated defective keybeds are apparently still out there all over the world being sold to unsuspecting keyboardists is beyond my comprehension. If nothing else, this is a public relations nightmare for NORD/Clavia. As more and more reports of defective NP3 keypads trickle in from all over the world, the negative publicity for NORD/Clavia will mount. NORD/Clavia needs to publicly address this issue and "come clean". Just my humble opinion.

I agree to a certain extent. You are paying a lot of money for this piano and you shouldn't have any worries about how it's going to perform. As I said before I would love to own one, but seriously considering a reliable midi 88 board linked to an Electro 5 for the piano sounds. Ridiculous really.
Re: Nord Piano 3 Key knocking noise
Keyboards post that s/n seem to be ok. Apparently the fix is quite simple with some extra felt added.
Re: Nord Piano 3 Key knocking noise
Quite annoying I am sure, yet things like that happen. I can think of the Roland red glue, the Kronos keybed, Yamaha non-returning keys, DX7 wrongly implemented MIDI velocity and Roland JX10 buggy sysex implementation (the last 2 never fixed as far as I know).
Yamaha did offer an exchange of the full keybed when broken "lazy" keys happened. Just so annoying when one of the keys in my p80 broke, they had "just" stopped the replacement programme so I had to buy they key and change it myself. I am not looking forward to do that another 87 times.
