Newbie trouble: how do you split NP2 keyboard?

Postby Duckworp » 25 Mar 2015, 01:31

I have just purchased a NP2, my first time with a non-acoustic piano. I am trying to split the keyboard, bass sound on left, piano on right. To split the keyboard the manual States that you press the split keyboard button. I do this with a bass sound currently being in use. Once pressed I get the bass sound on the bass keys but the right hand of the keyboard has no sound at all. I can get a synth sound to come out of the right hand keys by turning the synth area on, but how do I have two sets of the pre-programmed 240 non-synth sounds to be in use, ie. Bass on left, piano on right?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Ps. I am finding the manual very unhelpful. Are there any good online tutorials for the Nord Piano 2 (free or fee based), it is very unintuitive to an acoustic piano player?

The keyboard can be split, with the piano sound to the right and synth sound to the left or vice versa. The default split point is C4. Two synth sounds or two piano sounds cannot be setup in a split on the NP2.

To set a split, select a piano sound. Select a synth sound. These two sounds will initially be layered. Now press 'Set Split'. The 'Pno/Synt' light will illuminate, and you will now have the board split with the piano under your left hand and the synth under your right hand. Press this button again and the 'Synt/Pno' light will illuminate, and you will have the synth under your left hand and the piano under your right hand. The LCD display will momentarily show these selections as you make them. A third push of the 'Set Split' button will turn off the light and restore the board to the initial layered (non split) condition.

Once a split has been selected, you can press the 'Shift' button and the 'Set Split' button simultaneously to reset the split point wherever you wish by pressing the desired split point key on the keyboard. The LCD display will initially show the default split point (C4) and then will display the new split point you have selected. What I have done is split the board with a nice violin or cello sound under my left hand. Put the split at maybe B3. Then I have a wide piano under my right hand and a cello accompaniment under my left hand.

Last, you can adjust the tonal range of each of the two zones in the split by pressing the 'Shift' button and simultaneously pressing either the 'Octave Shift +' or 'Octave Shift -' button for either the piano or the synth section. With a split set the tonal range change for each section of the board can be moved several octaves up or down as desired.

Once a split is set, you can change the piano or change the synth just as you would for the whole keyboard. The Set Split function on the NP 2 is so simple and quick you can easily use it during a music practice with your band (if you are in a band) and experiment very quickly with it during your band practice.

A split you may have set up and want to keep for later use must be immediately stored. I not stored, it will be lost when you power down the keyboard.

Hope this helps.
