Midi Program Change - Piano sounds different as the preset!

Postby 2xbasssist » 27 Sep 2012, 03:09

Hi Forum guys,

as usual, I'm having strange issues with Midi.

As I posted before on this forum, I use a C2D, a Piano2, . All my patch changes, and virtual sounds, are controlled using a MacBook Pro running Mainstage software.

In some songs, I use the Nord Piano2 as a controller, using Virtual sounds from the computer. So, to cancel the piano2 sound, I made a sound program called "-- MUTE --", which is a sound program, with no sound (it has been saved with the Piano and Sample Synth sections deselected).

A few days ago, I discovered that changing via the software from one patch to another, the Nord Piano sounds, "lost EQ Trebles". So, I turned off the Piano, and then turned it on again, and the sound program came back to its "normal" sound (with all it's brilliance). There is no light in the EQ section, after doing the midi program change reflecting that a CC was send to turn on the onboard Piano2 EQ.

I did a lot of tests, and I found out that Piano sounds are affected after changing from my "MUTE" program sound to any other program.

Have anyone experienced something similar? To use the Nord Piano as a controller, you do the same as me? save a patch with no sounds?

THANK YOU!!

I will post my own reply:

I discovered the "BUG". Here it is:

The Nord Piano, comes with a wonderful 3 pedals: una corda, sostenuto and sustain.

In my rock band concerts, I just use the Sustain pedal. So, to do program changes without using my hands (that both of them are very busy on the keyboard), I use the nord piano pedals, to assign program changes. So, I set the "una corda" pedal, to be the "program sounds -" and the middle sostenuto pedal to be the "program +".

The problem of my "losing treble sound", is that when I do a program change using the pedal ("program +" for example), the next sound KEEPS the sostenuto setting as a constant, even tho' I just press the pedal once, to do the "sound change". Doing this saves the sostenuto for that sound forever UNLESS I turn of the Keyboard.

That is why I was hearing a piano softer and with less trebles.

Is this a behaviour that Nord guys could correct in the next software update? For my kind of setup, it would be great. I wonder if this was made on purpose and could be useful in another kind of midi/keyboardist setups.

Thank you for reading.

Best,

That doesn't sound right indeed. Thanks for reporting back about this, it might be interesting for other users too.

Since we're an independent forum not directly associated with Clavia/Nord, you'll need to contact them directly about this (you could point them to your post in this thead, of course).
