 Dear dj,
The action or the sound isn't the important about the piano.
The important is the combination of the two.
The way the hammers hit the strings and the touche of the player is interactive.
The feeling that you 're "in the sound" when you play on a real piano is important.
The reality of the dynamics, too. Not too quiet like practicing at home or too loud like playing on stage with a digital piano.
These things can't be emulated by any digital piano.

I'm sorry, I can't describe it well, because a) my english is poor, b) it's a matter of experience in playing on an acoustic instrument.
A cheep or used acoustic piano is not always a bad or problematic piano.

Nords are great.
I own two of them and giging twice a month.
I would never use them for piano practicing.

ageofpoo wrote:I wish I asked this before buying my Nord Piano.. I am still able return it for a refund, however can somebody offer some advice.

I am a beginner at playing the piano and I recently came across a posting on pianoworld.com in regards to the Nord Piano stating:
unless you practice on a real piano you not only will have hard time to extend your techniques but also you will loose your self esteem on real pianos
and
The Nords are for gigging, and/or for playing if you like the sounds - I do. But for serious practice I mostly choose my acoustic piano.

Can any owners of the Nord Piano here confirm that this is true ? Should I return my NP and buy a real upright piano ?

thanks!

Depends what ac piano you're going to play on.
A few things may reduce the gap :
- set the reverb very low ( I switch it off )
- take the U3 on the nord
These 2 conditions change my fingering ( how long your finger's on the k ) and use of sustain pedal, so I can feel ok on the real thing, when it well tuned, coz that's very often a big difference ;)

ageofpoo, you might consider this. Learning to play piano requires hundreds and then thousands of hours of practice. This dedicated practice is more important to your results than which piano or keyboard you practice on. Therefore, pick the one that moves you to enjoy practicing. Whether that is the brand name, or the color, or the sound, whatever. Go with what ever moves you not by what forum members might suggest, unless, of course what moves you is being in synch with other people's opinions."

Wise words!

If you have access to a Nord Piano when learning, consider yourself extremely fortunate.

The real issues when learning piano are (1) realistic key weighting, and (2) realistic and dynamic voices, incl. pedaling. The Nord Piano 2 excels, and I would think be far better to learn on than most of the upright acoustic pianos I have played. Now, if you can swing a 6' grand or better, that would be a different story.

The only electronic piano instrument I think might be better would be the Yamaha AvantGrand N series, but you can't gig with those :)
