If I don't include a harpsi, I can fit all the instruments i want to play into the piano space. If I MUST include at least one from each category, I will have to make adjustments. (I have not received my Piano2 yet, it's being delivered Tuesday. But I have to work out my program space before it arrives.)
Thanks for a reply.

Is it necessary to include a Harpsichord?

Re: Is it necessary to include a Harpsichord?
Hello Dasher, welcome to the forum.
This is a good question: I haven't tried it myself yet (I like the harpsichord, I have a real one I'm restoring too) but I assume you can actually erase it. The same would probably go for the EPs.
I may give this a try on my Nord Stage 2; it probably works the same on the NS2 and NP2. If I do, I'll report back, but hopefully someone else knows the answer to this.
Edit: I did test this and it works fine. I erased all three harpsichords on my NS2. It warned me that 25 programs would no longer be complete if I did this, so you might want to figure out what programs use them (I think you can do this with the Sound List option in the Clavia software) and erase those too. After I'd erased them, I could no longer select the harpsichord sounds, the selection button just skipped the harpsichords (as expected, really). I haven't tried one of the programs that used the harpsichords, but I would expect them to malfunction (possibly use the first piano sound instead of the harpsichord or something like that).
So it seems that what you want to do will work fine, provided the NS2 and NP2 work the same in this respect (which is very likely). Hopefully someone else can give a conclusive answer with regard to the NP2.

Re: Is it necessary to include a Harpsichord?
You do not need to fill all categories (supposing that all Nords work the same here). The only condition that needs to be met is that .npno sound files (all pianos, harpsichords, clavis) only fit into the Piano RAM while .nsmp sounds fit into sample RAM.
Actually, I also saved space in my NE3HP by deleting the harpsichords when I don't need them. And then there are a few harpsichord samples in the Nord Sample Library (they don't use the valuable piano RAM) which are sufficient for my limited needs. (Rambling to the side: What use is a harpsichord if you can't tune it appropriately, using meantone or some other unequal temperament? Please give us alternative tunings, Clavia!)

These are the first samples I deleted when I got my Stage 2. I record original music and play classic rock, so I never need a harpsichord. All companies have included harpsichord for years, I suppose for classical players.

Re: Is it necessary to include a Harpsichord?
Thanks, guys. I get my 'board Wed, and am planning major revisions to the programming, so this is good news. I had expected that you would get a "no instrument" message or equivalent, but bypassing the selection entirely is perfect!
