Re: Yamaha FC7 for NL2x -> Pedal Range

HI Guys,
Just bought a Moog of expression pedal as I've read that it was one of the best for Prophet 08. Then, I will try it as well on my NL2X and let you know how it works.

Is that the pedal that can be configured to work with various keyboards?

I've got my second fc-7 plugged into my bcf2000 which works fine for if it turns out the stereo cable conversion doesn't work. The right stereo to mono y cable should be here soon.

Maybe I'll be using 3 pedals in the end then. 8-)

I can confirm that switching the ring and sleeve works for the fc-7 and lead 2x. I've got the full signal and a linear response with the two mono to stereo y cables.

Thanks!

I resurrect the thread to confirm the same problem between the Lead2X and the Yamaha FC7: with the pedal fully up, the morph-volume signal doesn't drop to zero.

Nobody else except the thread opener noticed this?
Seems weird that the problem isn't more known or discussed, as the 2X is such an ubiquitous synth and the FC7 is probably the most used control pedal...

Anyway, looks like there's no solution other than switching the ring-sleeve of the pedal through soldering or Y-cables (or buying an EV-5)?

Will try it, even if I don't like the hassle of hooking up two additional cables only to have a pedal working properly...

Alternatively, any pedal with a polarity switch should work fine, isn't it? I was looking up the Boss EV-30 (expensive but high quality) or a cheap M-Audio EX-P.
That way I wouldn't have to deal with extra cables/connectors/adapters, and I would have a spare pedal.

Fatar/Kurzweil model will work and is the least expensive and simplest of them all.

I can confrim the double Y adapter trick works with my FC7 - had the same issues with my Novation SL 61 MK II. The FC7 worked fine with my Nord Piano 2 but not the Novation. Y cables fixed it. Definitely 2 kinds of pedals out there, logarithmic vs linear.

Logarithmic Vs linear, 10 kOhm vs 50 kOhm potentiometer (but some use 25 or other values), and different tip-ring polarities.

I think the logarithmic-linear potentiometer influences the response of the pedal (how the signal changes during pedal travel), but the range is defined by the polarity.

I found in my local store a dirt-cheap Quiklok pedal with polarity switch, and confirm that's the issue: with one setting it behaves just like the FC7 (can't drop to zero), but switching the polarity I get the full 0-100% range.

Problem solved, thanks everybody!

For the record I've been using the y-cable solution for about a year. First one wore out after about 3/4 years of use probably because of the weight of the y-cables hanging down directly from the NL2x. After that I 'hang' it over one of the arms of my rack to avoid that but it ofcourse looks messy on stage. I also unplug/plug-in the thing and store it appropriately to avoid breaking. A pedal solution would be much easier but I when I''m done with my pedalboard I'll redo the cable and integrate the Y somewhere in the pedal board.
