Trying to find out if it is possible to convert Lead 4 files so they are compatible with my Electro 5.
Thanks!

Re: Putting Nord Lead programs onto Electro
the concept of direct conversion of a Lead 4 program into an NE5 compatible program is roughly equivalent to converting a cheeseburger into a vegan meal
it is completely not possible
some programs can perhaps be sampled...but that would impose severe limitations on the resulting sound

Hmm interesting.
It doesn't seem that far out, I mean, there are synth samples in the sound library that one can use on the NE5, no?

Re: Putting Nord Lead programs onto Electro
but the NL4 does not produce samples, nor use them in any way -- it is a true synth
as mentioned, it is possible to record those synth sounds into .wav files and then convert the resulting .wav files to .nsmp files, Nord's sample format, but you lose vast swaths of NL4 functionality once those sounds are reduced to samples, e.g. LFO, PB, Mod Env, mono modes, etc. The NE5 Sample Synth section does provide some rudimentary envelope functions, but nowhere near what the NL4 does.
The real key is that synth sounds which contain "motion" will be very hard to sample, or will require really long sampling times to capture that motion, and in that case it will be very difficult and perhaps even impossible to get workable loop points.
They are two very different instruments based on two very different types of sound generation technology and are COMPLETELY and HOPELESSLY incompatible with one another, with the very limited exception that the synth can be sampled...
My cheeseburger/vegan analogy was spot on. As you become more familiar with your instruments you will gain a deeper understanding of why this is true.
Bless, Pablo
