Re: Only 4 octaves on Nord synths
The Prophet 08 is 8 voices, the new REV2 comes in two models, one 8 voices at 1500$ that could be upgraded to 16 with an expansion card at 500$ or directly to the 16 voices at 2000$...I found a used Tetra at a good price to get 12 voices with my Prophet 08 as all the other features weren't essential for me in the REV2...

It's true that it's only 8 notes polyphony?
The Rev2 is available both in 8-voice and 16-voice configurations.

Re: Only 4 octaves on Nord synths
That is a good point and the 8 note polyphony put me off for a while.....
My thought process was that it it hasn't stopped all the tens of thousands (or more ?) of Prophets 5, 6 and 8 being sold over the years.
So I figured that I didn't want to get too bogged down in the tech of polyphony and decided just get on with playing music on this fantastic bit of kit. Ive tried a Prophet 8 and it wasn't an issue ( but in fairness I thought it would be !)
I think 8 notes will be enough for many and I dont think it should put you off, unless you are really into multi layered/ long washes/ etc. Then I can see that note stealing might become an issue

Re: Only 4 octaves on Nord synths
Dave, for me, the 26-voice polyphony of my NLA1 is at the limit if I play both hands. Especially when I play something like an EPiano+PAD (with Unison) with the Sustain pedal (note stealing issue). Fortunately not very often... but at least 32 would be nice. 8 or 16 voice is useless for me or my band so I prefer one less octave instead of less polyphony.
NE5D, NLA1, BS2, Boog, TX81Z, JV-1080, A33, AX-Synth, PC3K6, M350, BeatstepP. etc.

Re: Only 4 octaves on Nord synths
Hi Criss. I can see exactly why the REV 2 doesn't work for you. That is spot on.... and go for it !
Its a pity...... if the Nord Lead ( or even the A1) was in the same keyboard size/ quality bed / as the REV 2.....Nord would have my money.
Someone needs to explain to Nord (and the rest of them) the way we feel. ( Especially about a good quality, full size 5 octave keyboard ! )
Just my thoughts

Re: Only 4 octaves on Nord synths
I have the rack (Nord Rack 2) and hook up to 88 note Nord for playing, for setting up keyboard zones, for layering and soloing. Having 61+ notes really extends the playing excitement

For me the Rev-2-08 is no option. You only get 4 voices per part, so voice stealing will be heard even using only one part playing the 8 voices, when you are used to play 5 voice chords, as I do in my Fusion-Jazz band.
There also might be a "jumpy encoder" behaviour at the Rev2s which I also experienced when trying a brand new Mopho X4 few weeks ago.

Also the REV2 can use only one FX section per part, the A1 three (delay and reverb simultaniously).

I´d rather go to the mighty Virus keyboard TI2.
It´s 16 part multitimbral, which is great when recording.
Kind regards,
Herbert

Re: Only 4 octaves on Nord synths
I read that the Virus had some problems with USB communication. Has that been resolved? While very tempting it is a not-so-new instrument anymore and I wonder if there is a newer model in the making.

Re: Only 4 octaves on Nord synths
Hi All
Thanks for your views and advice. I now have a DSI REV2 ( 8 voice) . There is so much lovely analogue squelch....it is a monster
The keybed is pro quality and is quite simply superb. ( and of course five octaves !) Nord should take note
( I did look at the Virus synths, but they seemed bit thin to my ears. Im sure with tweaking they are ok, but not for me.)
