Hi guys,

I have a little problem with my Nord Rack 2 (which I bought second hand). When switched on for some time (maybe half an hour), the unit sometimes goes nuts and starts to reboot over and over again.
The display then shows "1.03" (the OS version), "Nr2", then the patch number and repeats. Each time I hear a little click. It will do this a couple of times and eventually start working normally again.

First I thought there might be some weird MIDI signals coming in that can cause this, but it also occurs when nothing is plugged to the MIDI in.

Has anyone experienced the same issue or any idea what might cause this behaviour?

I have seen this behavior on really old NE2s and NL3s, but not NL2s so far. There are numerous possible causes/cures for this behavior. In some instances oxidation buildup on internal ribbon connections between panelboard and mainboard and/or between power supply board and mainboard has caused this, and a simple cleaning of those connections can quiet the issue down. At the other end of the spectrum, it is possible that mainboard flashes are the problem, requiring major surgery by someone who possesses considerable skill, experience and proper equipment. In any event, this is surely a hardware issue, so it will be best to seek advice from a knowledgeable tech.

Please note that your OS is rather out of date. Final OS on that instrument is v1.06. This is not causing your problem, but you may wish to consider upgrading that (by installing an eeprom with newer OS loaded onto it) while the thing is being serviced.

Dear Paolo,

thanks for the answer. I just opened the unit, and it is in a very good condition. I unplugged & plugged the connectors several times, and up to now, its working well. So let's see...
I also noticed that I don't have the latest OS, however, I could not find a changelog anywhere, and I'm interested what has actually changed from 1.03 to 1.06.
