I spent allot of money on this synth, I called myself doing ample research before purchasing and now over the course of a couple of hours I've discovered that unlike my Nord lead original, There is no way for me to set each of the patch slots A-D to individual midi channels, and record the output of those midi channels into my hardware sequencer to be played back.......this is the whole reason why I bought this synth and would never in a million years have thought that this was not possible..... I loved the thought of the A1 as a warmer version of my Nord lead 1, that unlike the Nord lead 1 would allow me to send audio out of individual outputs, allow me to pan patches, and sequence different instrument sounds on all 4 slots like I have been doing on the NL1......
I hope I am mistaken and that someone can help me because this is the most ridiculous misfortune I've ever heard of on a synth and I hope it's just me that's being ridiculous and not this synth.... this is terrible, I will have to sell this synth if I can't find my user error!
I want to set each patch slot to whatever midi channel I want and sequence each instrument slot into my hardware sequencer on matching sequencer tracks......... what I've been doing for years on the nl1 and every other synth capable of midi that I've ever used.

Re: Nord Lead A1 Question/ Urgent help needed on slot Midi S
Hum. Each slot can have its own MIDI channel assignment, see the MIDI A-B-C-D settings ("The Menus", pg. 31). These can be different than the Global MIDI channel, so you can have five MIDI channels assigned to an A1, if I understand correctly. I have mine set that way and it seems to be working okay but I haven't tried recording the individual slots into Ableton, so I don't know.

Re: Nord Lead A1 Question/ Urgent help needed on slot Midi S
thanks for chiming in I'm really at a loss, I'm using the A1 with a hardware sequencer, and with ableton and what I have been used to for years is set the midi channel and press record on the sequencer, play the keys, tweak the panel and record it all into the sequencer..... I do not want to control the Nord from the sequencer I basically want to use the A1 as a midi controller for itself.... a different instrument on every slot. using the global midi channel makes all channels respond

What's the problem? You can setup every part to a different channel.

Re: Nord Lead A1 Question/ Urgent help needed on slot Midi S
the problem is that I can't send midi out from each slot into my sequencer to be recorded.

Re: Nord Lead A1 Question/ Urgent help needed on slot Midi S
Correct, the NL keys and panel knobs always send on the global midi channel only - not on individual slot channels. As far as I see it, you unfortunately can't do what you want, i.e. playing with multiple slots active and recording on different midi channels meanwhile, depending on which slot is in "focus".
No, only the active (lit) slots respond on the global midi channel. Deactivated slots still respond to the slot midi channel.

Re: Nord Lead A1 Question/ Urgent help needed on slot Midi S
Okay, now I'm confused. The purpose of having individually addressable MIDI channels for the slots is what? And how does all this relate to global MIDI and whether the slot is active?

Yep, my feelings exactly. See this post and Pablo's reply.

Re: Nord Lead A1 Question/ Urgent help needed on slot Midi S
I see. Wow, between that and this cheap keyboard, the A1 seems to be destined for someone else's studio. More and more it's looking like Clavia peaked for me with the Lead 3 and Rack 3, at least when it comes to their analog synthesizer lineup. The A1 sounds fantastic, but the little annoyances add up quickly. In contrast, the keyboard in the Sub37 is quite nice and has Aftertouch, like the Lead 3 and Wave had. And really, what was the lame excuse for losing the cool LED-ringed knobs? They're just awesome on the Rack 3. Sigh.

Re: Nord Lead A1 Question/ Urgent help needed on slot Midi S
I think the sub37 is a different animal altogether, not sure they're comparable but this is really a problem for me if I cannot find some way to work it out. I had to stretch funds to get this synth and I never would have imagined this..... everything else I can live without.
It is only natural for people to want to set each midi channel individually for both in and out, the main feature of the Nord leads have always been that they are really 4 individual synths in one that can be layered t perfection......... I can't even tell you how disappointed I am about this!!!
