Re: Nord Lead A1 Question/ Urgent help needed on slot Midi S
and I'm not trying to use it as a midi controller as Pablo was saying, I'm trying to use it as the synth I thought it was with my akai mpc hardware midi sequencer.... the Nord lead 1 that I have does this just fine with no problem and predates any of the midi controllers on the market today So this is not a case of me expecting something I shouldn't from the synth.

Never mind...Just saw your post.
So I too love the sound of the A1, but wasn't happy with the midi implementation, so I just use the rack version and use a different controller. Still love the sound.

Re: Nord Lead A1 Question/ Urgent help needed on slot Midi S
Yes, I felt that too. For example if I have 4 sequenced tracks with midi notes for the four slots, and I want to add some automation, I can't just arm all midi tracks, hit record and turn knobs while changing focussed slots as I desire, but I have to do it for each track/slot at a time via the global midi channel. Or - sometimes better - record it all on one track (global midi) and then move the clips to the desired track.
I assume you want to do somthing like loop based multitrack recording, with adding one instrument after the other while the sequencer is running?
Works only if you can change armed tracks on the mpc in between and do it all via the global midi channel; as far as I see it.

Re: Nord Lead A1 Question/ Urgent help needed on slot Midi S
I guess I agree. I can live without Aftertouch but I can't live with a keyboard that drops notes. And I also checked into the MIDI config before I bought this and sure expected it to work as you describe. I think the Lead and Rack do. I can at least see the Rack 3 sending on the slot channel In MIDI Monitor. I was quite surprised to learn the A1 works the way it does. And yes, that's basically my goal and why I bought the A1.

wait a minute my sequencer can do that, so what would you set the global channel to, the same as the slot you're sequencing or a completely different number?

I hope they can see the mistake and change this in an update

Re: Nord Lead A1 Question/ Urgent help needed on slot Midi S
now for a silly question I guess, but how can I make the mod wheels vibrato only affect only the slot that I'm playing and not the other sequenced slots?

Again, firmware. Clavia could fix both these problems in the firmware, I think.

Not sure.
Let's say you have slot midi on channel 1,2,3,4 and global midi on 5. If you can set the mpc to listen on channel 5 on all four midi tracks you can record on all channels, or on those armed for rec. If you just want to record, that's enough. However I am not sure if these tracks can output on a different channel (1,2,3,4) at the same time, which you would like I guess - if you want to hear the loops you just recorded playing back, or something like that.
In a DAW that's usually no problem, because you can select the track you want to record on manually and the DAW can listen to all midi channels (or ch 5) and that recording process is completly independent from the midi channels the sequencer tracks send their data (1,2,3,4 back to the NL).

derrellpiper wrote:I see. Wow, between that and this cheap keyboard, the A1 seems to be destined for someone else's studio. More and more it's looking like Clavia peaked for me with the Lead 3 and Rack 3, at least when it comes to their analog synthesizer lineup. The A1 sounds fantastic, but the little annoyances add up quickly. In contrast, the keyboard in the Sub37 is quite nice and has Aftertouch, like the Lead 3 and Wave had. And really, what was the lame excuse for losing the cool LED-ringed knobs? They're just awesome on the Rack 3. Sigh.
The lame excuse was, that the NL3 made horrible losses and almost broke them.
