Hallo,
i am considering the idea of buying some high end external effects for my NLA1.
Anybody having fun with Eventide/Strymon/other toys ? Are they worth wrt a smart use of internal effects ?
In particular i am looking to the Eventide H9 with some interest :->

Re: Nord Lead A1 and external effects
Salut Maurizio!
Hmmm ... the Nord Lead that does NOT need external FX is the NLA1, IMHO.
But I use cheap Behringer rack units to make my NL4 & 2X a little more exciting!
Waste of money?

NE3HP, NP88, NS2, DPP1, NL2X, NL2X, NLA1, NL4, NE5D, NW2 (Collect Them All?), some classic Rolands, Arturias, a Waldorf, a Kurz, a WONOK3, a pile of guitars, a P-bass, loopers, amps and computers ...

May be, that is why i am asking :->
Anyway, the NLA1 effects are ok, but not particularly flexible or customisable; for example, i love the sound of tape delay emulators (or the real thing), like an Boss RE-20, and
i find that kind of sound quite interesting for a traditionally sounding lead solo. I don't know how far is interesting to go, however.

Re: Nord Lead A1 and external effects
I love using my Strymon Timeline with my A1. I also use a Strymon Big Sky. I like the effects in the A1 very much (I wish Clavia would release an effects/filter box with more parameters to tweak.) but the Timeline and the Big Sky are on another level. I have a Mobius as well, and find myself using it for tremolo and lo-fi effects. The chorus and flanger in the Mobius don't knock me out, I'm apt to use the onboard A1 modulation effects. And sometimes I find there's something about the reverb algorithms in the A1 that just sit so nicely it's hard to better them even with a Big Sky.
Do you tend to run all four outputs into a mixer to record the A1?

Here's an example of the A1 through an Eventide H3000. I like the internal FX but of course they're very rudimentary compared to a dedicated unit.

Re: Nord Lead A1 and external effects
Hey, good luck on the first gig.
For live playing I wouldn't use external effects unless I really needed them. The built-in effects will suffice. Without individual outs, you're going to have to use lots of internal effects anyway if you use performances.
Do you mostly use A1 programs or performances in your set list?

Currently i use the A1 as lead instrument for some solos on jazz/rock/fusion stuff; just a sound, sometime built over multiple slots, but no complex
outboard mixing are needed; and yes, today i use the internal effects, mostly delay.
