Nord Lead 3 - Inaccurate internal clock

Post by metalfingers »

Fellow Nord experts!

I have noticed that the internal clock on my NL3 is fast by approximately 0.47 bpm. I measured this by generating a perfect 1 minute click track at 120 bpm, then setting the NL3's internal clock to 120 and recording an LFO sound synced to the same tempo that would be easy to discern in a DAW. By 20-30 seconds you could tell it was off and by the time a full minute had passed it was clear the keyboard's clock had drifted.

When I first got this instrument I did the capacitor mod on the 3.3V rail, as I found it was affected by voltage drop-outs in the mains. Other than that, the instrument is unmodified. At some point I will open the keyboard up and check voltages coming out of the power supply to see if this is a simple over/under voltage issue.

Has anyone else noticed this sort of severe clock skew on the NL3? Thanks!

The clock should be controlled by a crystal or other stable source. It should not be affected by voltage.
