Hi,
Yes I get what the manual says but cannot find how to get it to work in a real life situation
I have an MPC 2500 that I use as a sequencer and sampler drum machine. I use my NL3 for melodic sounds.
So, as a real world EG. A is set too MIDI ch 1, B to 2, C to 3, D to 4.
1 - If I set local to 'on' like you're not suppose to if using a sequencer, if I select MIDI channel 1 on my MPC and select A on the NL3, the expected sound plays. In this case a bass.
This is down too MIDI ch 1 and A all going back to the same thing.
2 - If I do the same as above except I change the MIDI ch on my MPC too 2 with the NL3 still set too A then 2 separate sounds occur.
Of course if I use an external keyboard with my NL3 or indeed the pads on the MPC to trigger the notes it all plays fine. So I go away and look at the manual and learn about Local Off.
So I set Local Off.
Now, it all sounds right just as I wanted. Except now I cannot change any of the values the knobs sends out on the NL3 for real time tweaking. Real time tweaking is essential too what I do.
Can anyone please tell me how I have my cake and eat it.

Re: NL3 - Cant understand Local on / Off
hi mt,
I think perhaps the real question here is: what is your Global Midi Channel on the Nord? This may be the answer to why you are reporting #2 above, that Slot A set to 1 continues to play even when you change the MPC's transmitting channel to 2. This does seem curious. I cannot understand why changing Local to Off would suddenly change that.
However, if your only current problem is inaccessibility of the front panel controls, you should look for a setting in the Akai, sometimes referred to as a Soft Thru, which will take the incoming midi data stream and send a copy to the MPC's output port. Since this is connected back to the Nord's midi input, this will "awaken" the Nord's brains to your front panel control movements.
Bless, Pablo
