My latest podcast features improv Nord Lead 4

[Mark Mosher]

Episode 012 of my Sonic Encounters Soundscape podcast is up. This is another piece inspired by the ground-breaking work of Louis and Bebe Barron on the film Forbidden Planet I use oscillators rather than samples as sound sources for this piece.

The piece is a live improvisation on only the Nord Lead 4 using only expressive real-time synthesis around a single original program from INIT. Oh, and my Nord Lead 4 just turned 2 .

It's pretty great for experimental work and you can really push it to get sounds you might be more used to hearing with modulars. Anyone else out there making "Krell" music with their Nord Lead 4?

That was a wonderful NL4 improv

Wow ! What a beautiful sonic trip, and believe me, it can go further into uncharted sonic territory, and that's one of the areas a Synth is made for, it's not just for emulation, but for discovery, and having a sonic adventure.

Haha - exactly! I have a lot of friends into modular and some have NL4. I like to challenge myself to emulate some things I hear coming from their rigs :^)

Thanks! I agree, it CAN do emulation, but man what a great synth for discovery!!! I'm also big into Octatrack.

Agreed about the experimental side of the NL4. When I had mine I had always thought that it covered that "modular sound" quite well. Very nice track.
