Lead 4 and lead a1 too much nord ?

Postby ocelot » 22 Sep 2016, 20:45

Hi,

im looking for a new synth my current setup is a lead a1, motif xf and Moog sub 37.
I love every one of them but sometimes I miss a harsh very digital sounding synth I can make crazy sounds with.
I had the dsi pro 2 for a few days but I didn't feel it somehow it was akward the routing was confusing for me.
The lead 4 sounds very tempting but does it make sense in my setup ? Are the lead a1 and lead too similar or complimentary?

Thanks!

Hej Ocelot!

The NL2X, NLA1 & NL4 are totally different beasts, IMHO. 8-)
I will not part from any one of them.
Or my JV-80 or D-50 ...

I'm a gearslut!

I had a 4 for a while and swapped it for an A1 thinking I'd never look back, but I have to say after about a year I miss the 4. I think the A1 has the better sound engine, but the 4 has so much more routing/modulation, which makes it great for experimental sounds. I don't know if I'd drop the cash for another 4 on top of the A1 I already have, but I think there's room for both in one studio.

Also, the Korg Volca FM might also fit the bill for harsh digital sounds. Less functionality of course, but it's cheap and fun to play with and it might hold you over until you decide to commit to the Nord Lead 4.
