Hello everybody!
I just got my hands on a Nord Rack 1 for the very first time and I'm extremely excited to try it. I got a fairly good price and the unit came with the extension. I only tested the 12 voice polyphony and it worked perfectly. On the other hand I didn't really know how to save presets and all so I haven't tested that yet. When powered on, the unit showed the following message: "2.5 E". The seller said it meant that it had been updated. Any input on this?
Now, I see that the memory card slot on the rear panel is empty. There are lots of PCMCIA SRAM memory cards for sale on eBay, but what should I be going for exactly? I read that anything over 256Kb would be overkill as you won't be able to store any more patches with the extra space (e.g. if I buy a 1Mb card). Is this true? Excuse me for this noob question, but what exactly do I need the PCMCIA SRAM card for? Is there anything that I cannot do without it?
Thanks!

Re: Just bouhght a Nord Rack 1--Card in rear panel is missin
Ok, the first answer came from the user manual (p.24):
"There are cards with larger memory capacity than 64 kByte but using one with the Nord Lead is simply a waste of money."
Well that was straight!

There are 40 RAM program locations on your NL1, but NO RAM performance locations. You do not need the card to store up to 40 programs, but cannot store custom performances without a card.
The "E" you are seeing in the boot sequence is an indication that you have the optional expansion card installed. The "2.5" is an indication of the OS version you are running. The current and final OS release is v2.7. Your instrument can be upgraded by replacing your existing EEPROM with one which has the newer OS installed on it. This is available in Canada and the USA through me via my regular work contacts as shown below. Please contact me there if you would like to discuss this in greater detail.
