I agree with all you say in regard to the topic, but this detail is not correct. Keyboard and Rack Version work the same.

On the keyboard version all slots are always active as well on their respective slot midi channel. No matter which slots are "on". Activating slots is relevant for the global midi channel = what the keyboard plays on the keyboard version - or the external keyboard via the global channel on both versions.

I posted a somewhat lengthy response in this thread earlier -- not sure where it went to...?

Here's the deal: this behavior has existed in Nord Lead models since the beginning of time -- 20+ years. I immediately took the "not in the manual" comment as a challenge and went hunting through the manual to prove that wrong -- and was unable to do so. It is not in the manual, Clearly this is an oversight by Nord. And there is no reason to expect that new buyers of new Nord Leads will be knowledgeable about this kind of detail in 20+ years of Nord synth making. OP has a valid point in this regard.

Execbat: yes, all slots on the keyed Nord Leads will be active on their respective midi channels and respond to incoming midi data arriving at its midi input ports on those channels regardless of whether their respective Slot LEDs are engaged or not.

However, the point here is that on the keyed version Nord Leads slots will be engaged/disengaged with respect to the instrument's keys by enabling/disabling individual slots by their respective slot buttons. If the slot LED is OFF, playing the notes on the keyed version will not produce sound. The OP is looking for this same functionality with respect to his remote controller keyboard.

Bless, Pablo

Stop! Bzzzrrr! Sorry, no cigar! You're wrong! :) You can simply hit the slot key on the front panel - just like on the keyboard version- to select or layer slots. As long as you are sending notes on the global channel. Otherwise you can play each slot by its MIDI channel remotely from your DAW or sequencer. There's no difference between rack and full version. At least not on the NL4. Not sure how my old NL1 is handling this, but I tend to believe in the same way.

Cheers,

Tom

Stop! Bzzzrrr! As you say, if you are transmitting your note data on the global channel.

But when transmitting that note data on individually assigned slot channels, those channels will always respond to that data regardless of whether the individual slots are engaged on the front panel.

Nevertheless there's no difference between the keyed and rack versions of the NL4. NL1 handled them differently, NL4 -AFAIK and according to the manual- doesn't.

This is for SINGLE mode:

1. hold shift + midi (now you on the midi assignment page)
2. let go shift + midi
3. make sure display says G 1 (meaning global midi channel 1) if not then turn the value dial knob
4. press shift to exit that midi page
5. hold shift + midi
6. let go shift + midi
7. turn value dial knob once to the right
8. now you see slot A midi channel. To enter another midi ch. value for slot A hold shift while turning the value dial knob, in my case its set to A 4
9. turn the value dial knob again to the right to see slot B midi channel and hold shift to alter the channel if needed, in my case B is set to B 5
repeat stage 9 for slot C and D

My setup says Global Midi is 1, and Slot A = 4, Slot B =5, Slot C=6 and Slot D =7

With this setup i get 4 different sounds i can choose from by hitting a slot button.

To change a sound in a slot hold slot button and turn value dial knob

If this dont answer the question from the first post then i'm sorry, i will put myself in a corner and spank my self :)
