There is a (weird crazy old) guy posting classic/vintage NLA1 patches on this forum.
A possible learning procedure could be to experiment and transfer his recipes to the NL4.
And you'll soon be able to create anything?
Publish your experiments - learn from feedback. Might be a way forward.

Good luck! There are lots of people here ready to support you!

What Musiksculp said.....

.... The NL4 is more flexible, the NLA1 sounds warmer (those are both gross generalizations and my opinion based on my use of the two -- I've owned both). But Alas, get thee to a music store and twist some knobs.

Cheers!

Also don't forget that the "wavetable" waveforms sound different on each synth. I felt that some of the NL4 waveforms were quite thin compared to the A1, especially the formants and the electric pianos.

But the NL4 lets you control the effects section with an LFO as well as turn pitch tracking off on OSC2, something I really miss on the A1. NL4 FM is also much more flexible. If you said you were after strange modulated FX and modular-esque noises then the NL4 would be a perfect fit. But if you're specifically after 80s sounds, the only choice would be the A1.

Hey guys,

I'm loving my NL4, had it a month. What swung it for me was the clarity of the manual compared to some other manu's.

I like the way the sounds cut through the mix in my DAW. The NL4 isn't the warmest synth out there but the sounds don't need much tweaking to get them to stand out.

I'm running mine into a Lexicon MX400 which is a rack unit but I am studio based so that is fine. I get that people want a one box solution but I figure that if you can afford a Nord then you probably have fx units already. If I were gigging then I would patch into my Kemper. Good digital fx are cheap. Do they really need to be onboard?
