As fate would have it...Nord Lead 5

Postby starkaudio » 23 Nov 2014, 07:13

I love my A1, and I want to expand a bit more. So I considered an A1r or a 4r, but with *MY* luck a week after I purchase a 4r the Lead 5 will be announced. What's the likelihood of that actually happening?

If I have my dates correct, 4 1/2 years passed between the introduction of the Nord Wave and the Nord Lead 4. And a decade passed between the Nord Lead 2x and the Nord Lead 4. I think it will be a few years before we get the Nord Lead 5.

But... there are exception to this... A1 was released shortly after the NL4 was released :wtf:

Difficult to know. I have been wrong before :) but,
I can't imagine a new Lead in the forthcoming NAMM or Musikmesse.
If I had to bet what synths we might see I would say:
A new NS (Stage 3?) or a new Wave (Wave 2?).

Interesting times for customers, with the new Kronos coming down a bit in price and the new Kurzweils recently released.
Perhaps a new Virus synth? It is about 5 yrs old now?
I also wonder what Yamaha is plannig (if anything) and how would the Korg-Odyssey remake sound like...

Hi,

You might want to wait, and see what new synths begin popping up after the Winter NAMM 2015 show in Jan. , you could be gravitated to add something else, that's vert different to the NL4. Although, I have the NL4 (Rack), and wouldn't want to be without it. :)

If you find a very good deal on a NL4 (Rack) , then I would highly recommend it.

Cheers,

Good point. I forgot to mention that in the last decade Nord has pursued a 2 VA synth marketing strategy. The 2X overlapped with both the Nord Lead 3 and the Nord Wave. The A1 basically replaced the 2X, while the NL 4 basically replaced the Nord Wave.

So...expect the NL5 in about 3-4 years and the A2 in about 4-5 years. At least that is my guess.

Starkaudio, if you are as lucky as you say, think community and get a NL4 right now so that Clavia announce the NL5 soon :)

Joke apart, my true answer is: every second waiting for the next instrument is a second not spent playing.

Please please bring the LED ring knobs back everywhere and don't skimp on your OLEDs.

The led ring buttons are larger and I don't think that they would be enough space on the NL rack board to use it. The NL3 didn't have Morph button, and if the led screen comes back (or 2 led screen for samples) space will be a problem.
Actual synth: Nord Modular G2 - Nord Stage 3 73 - Virus Ti2 - Peak - Prophet 6
Before: Nord Lead 3 & 4, Stage 1&2, Wave, Virus C, DSI Tetra, P12, and few others...
