Nord L4 Midi not responding

Postby Krafts » 25 Jan 2017, 17:34

Instrument model: Nord Lead 4
Instrument OS version: OS v1.30
Computer OS version: Os 10.9.5
Type of problem: MIDI related
Detailed description of problem/symptom:
Hi there, my Nord L4 stopped responding to external Midi signal coming from my laptop Macbook Pro Midi interface (MOTU micro lite) after I Restored and
updated it via Nord Sound Manager. "It used to work till I restored it. " I have checked 3 different other synths and all are working fine when
attached to the same midi interface. When Connected to the Nord L4 the Midi light indicator blinks showing Midi
signal is sent to the Nord but no sound is triggered on the Nord!! I have viewed the Manual for ways of Midi connect & I have tried different
ways to connect it..
As per the manual and as my current connection is...
Midi Interface
1- "Midi Out" from the Midi Interface
2- Midi signal is sent through Channel 1 on the Midi interface
Nord L4
1- Midi into "Midi in" The Nord L4
2- Receiving Midi through Global Midi Channel 1 by "Pressing 'Shift + Midi
then turning the Program Dial at the same time to G.1" I still couldn't get my head around this "Why doesn't it Trigger the sound
out thou you see the Midi lights up indicating there's a signal coming through"?? unless Im missing something I appreciate your help as this is driving me crazy.

Hi Krafts,

First try press Perform button and go into midi menu to see what midi channels are set for A+B+C+D then press Perform button again and and go into midi menu to see what MIDI channels are set for A+B+C+D.

Next try see if you by accident have set Nord Lead 4 to not recieve certain midi inputs or something like that. Go thru all the midi settings one by one to see if something is off which shouldnt be off.

If you still have problems i will go thru my Nord Lead 4 and write down the settings so you can compare.

Best

/Michael

The Nord will always show an indication incoming midi activity regardless of whether it is arriving on an assigned channel...or port

your post does not make it clear that you have Page One of the Midi Menu, MIDI Interface, set to P and not U
U is the factory default and doing the factory restore may have reset that
the NL4 can receive midi at traditional 5-pin DIN midi port or USB port, but not both

please check that setting and let us know how this works out for you

bless, pablo

I apologize for the late reply, Im very much new to this and might need step by step instruction as I have followed your advice im not sure if im doing the right thing and pressing on the right buttons but this what I got:
1- Pressing Perform button and go into midi menu (Pressing Shift + Midi) to see what midi channels are set for A+B+C+D:>> A=> A.40 / B=> A.40 / C=> A.40 / D=> A.40
2- Pressing Perform button again and and go into midi menu (Pressing Shift + Midi) to see what MIDI channels are set for A+B+C+D:>> A=> b.C1 / B=> G.1 / C=> 1.ON / D=> b1

I think Im doing something wrong here :?

Thank you so much guys, you guys are awesome :yourock: .. my issue was resolved.. yaaay

My real issue was that I'm newbie and didn't know my way around it.. I was pressing HOLD!! Shift+Midi and keep rotating the program knob..lol, I spent around 48H+ working around it till I eventually figured out that due to not releasing the Shift button I was manly on the same page "That was stupid"..

:thanks:
