Using MIDI bass pedals with Electro 4?
If I were to buy something like this to hook up to my Electro 4, would it work? How do MIDI bass pedals work with Nord keyboards? Can they assigned to a certain octave in the "lower" manual, or what...?

Electro 4 is monotimbral so a MIDI Bass Pedal will play the same sound that the keyboard does (on the corresponding notes/keys)

Right, so if I have an organ split (which the E4 can do) and set it to the same MIDI channel as the lower split (two organ splits can have seperate MIDI channels on the E4) it'll play whatever the lower manual is set to? Or I could just get a proper dual manual clonewheel...

Correct, instead a "proper dual manual clonewheel" such as the Nord Cx series or a Crumar Mojo or similar models, which reproduce a full Hammond, usually have a dedicated MIDI Channel (and sound generation) for the Bass pedals, independent from the two manuals.

Such compromises are to be expected on a single manual! Technically, on a Stage 2 or 3, I could assign the Slot B organ to just the pedal sound and use it to control that while having two completely different organ splits on slot 1, right? Would give me three independent sounds for pedal/LH/RH.

Not exactly, on the Nord Stage you can assign any section to just an external MIDI Channel, but if you assign Organ B to pedal then on Organ A you can play just 1 manual, not a split. A typical workaround to this, if you need 2 Organ manuals + bass, is to use a Synth section for bass pedals.
